For years we've tried to squash Lampard and Gerrard into the same 99% of the time to the detriment of Gerrard as Lampard can play only one way.

I believe a 4231 would work for England and would work for Gerrard giving the team more chance to win something.

Hopefully this will lead to Gerrard anouncing his retirement from international football.
          We come not to play.

I had a lovely dream we beat Chelsea last night, and now wake up to this news. Number 19 in number 19? Please God, let the signs be true.

I'm not sure. I think that Gerrard is not so much our best player that building a team around him is justified, certainly at international level where there is a premium on keeping possession. I think the shape for the Croatia game is right for England and that we should have only changed the necessary players - Cole and Terry from that.

Lampard is a much, much better player than people on here give him credit for. He is limited in what he can do but he regularly does that exceptionally well and he is a better percentages player than Gerrard. We have too many players who are careless in possession - I don't think that at international level we can make for being deficient in that in central midfield.

Gerrard has only just worked out how he needs to interact with other players in that position for us in the last few games and he trains with our squad all the time. England have no such luxury. It has to be accepted that there are different demands at international level and they are not all about ability levels.

Wonderful decision for us. Make Stevie angry, give him something to prove, give him a rest and then let him loose. We can only win. England will lose out.

I'm really disappointed in Capello. At the start of his reign he seemed to ackowledge that playing Lampard and Gerrard didnt work. He made the brave decision to only play one of the two. I applauded him for that, and it seemed to work. Gerrard and Barry gave us a much nicer balance. Now he has pussied out and backtracked, and again I thought the two didnt work well together. Gerrard resorted to playing a defensive midfielder role in the 2nd half, which is an appaling waste of talent. Against better opposition it could have been a disaster.

Oh and just to make it clear I am also in the group that want Gerrard to be dropped on Wednesday to rest him for Wigan, Im just disappointed in Capello, I thought he was better than that.
