stevie or souness who's the best?

tough one cos maybe a few of you dont remember souness or your memories are tainted by his debacle as manager but he was a fantastic player

    as is stevie

but stevie tbf has shone for ages in imo average liverpool teams

    so who is/was the best

souness for me -just - but stevie may well overtake him yet

i don't remember souness going awol as much as stevie has been prone to do a few seasons back. but i think stevie's had 2/3 absolutely excellent seasons in a row. if he pushes this to 5/6 then he'll surpass souness in my eyes.

that souness played in a better side could mean both that it was easier for souness to achieve trophy success but also that it was harder for him to shine in amongst so many great players.
converseley since stevie is not in as great a team, his ability could mean both its easier for him to shine, but also that its much harder for him to achieve success as he must carry a greater burden in a more competitive league.

tough call. imagine them as a pairing...

Stevie wins the league more than once hes better than Souness, if not, hes not.

Stevie for me. He is now, IMO, the greatest player we have ever had. Souey was a fantastic player but overall Stevie nicks it for me.

I'm to young to remember Souey and my judgement on him is somewhat clouded because of his time as manager however my auld man who was a season ticket holder of years and years rates Stevie slightly high than Souey so I'll go with him.

souness never went missing in the big games - you know the ones i mean - stevie hasnt imo performed as well against them as he can / should

but time is on his side and his performance is getting better

Steve never seems to have an average game against the top sides, he is either superb or goes missing. Thankfully it has been more superb lately than missing, lets hope he can continue it.

souness for now but i think steve will overtake him as he has at least 4-5 years left with us at the very top
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

looking at videos of souey he was amazing and a real leader and one heck of a hard man on the field. stevie just needs to win one priemiership and he will be regarded as better than souness . but hey , arent we lucky that we got these two players in their prime playing for us . its just a pity it never worked out for souey as manager, because if he had been half as good a manager as he was a player we would have won no 18 long before now

I think its much more complex than just comparing the two players, I'm a couple of years to young to remember Souness play, but i've heard the stories, read the books & seen the videos - I would lean towards Souness, BUT:-

                              1. Could Souness survive in the prem where you get yellow/red cards for tackles that would be completely acceptable in the 80's?

                              2. Would Gerrard be as good if he didn't have the "protection" that the current rules give him (the oposite of point 1.)

                              3. If Souness was playing in a weaker team could he have dragged a team to victory like Gerrard has done a number of times over the past 5 years?

                              4. I'm under the impression that there were a few other players on the same level or near to the level as Souness in the team he played in, if that was the case with Gerrard, and there were a few other players just as good, would he be rated as highly?

They were (are) both amazing players though.
