Good result. Absolutely definitely not a red card though, I thought Mike Riley and his team were terrible all day.

I was surprised at how negative Chelsea were, at one stage Carragher was miles out of position and rather than quickly counter attacking they just passed the ball around in midfield and let our whole team get back to their positions .

Delighted with the win but not convinced with the performance. I'm not sure we would have won without the sending off. At times it felt like Gerrard was talking them on on his own.

Hopefully that has got the confidence back and we can build on this and start playing again.

As an aside, how bad are the Chavs now? I've never felt so comfortable playing against them. We struggled to get past their defence but they had absolutely nothing in an attacking sense. Be interesting if Roman isn't going to backroll them anymore. Can't see Scolari lasting long playing like that.

The title is Man Ut'ds to throw away, we just need to make sure we stay in touching distance.
For ****'s sake they're just two points ahead. I didn't see much in their 1-0 penalty win yawnfest yesterday that says their nailed on. If we played like that we'd get slaughtered by the media

Scolari seems to be a great manager when he's picking from a crop of world beating Brazilians, but he doesn't seem to have clicked with the Chelsea side.

No doubt though if Roman is to stay on and things start going down hill, then he will throw a few hundred million in the transfer pot just to tick things over?

Reina - had **** all to do
            Arbeloa - solid, decent enough
            Carra - solid
            Skrtel - solid as ****
Aurelio - whipped in some great crosses, solid
Riera - not his best game, took up some good positions though
Alonso - up to his usual high standard
            Mascher - ditto
Kuyt - not his best game, was good off the ball though
            Gerrard - immense. MOTM
Torres - not his best game either, marshalled by 2+ players each time, but still managed 2

We've now thoroughly dominated Chelsea in both games this season, and ManU once. If we can go to Old Toilet and play as well as we have in those other 3 games, we can still have a shout this year. Its a very long shot imo, but if Torres can catch fire now and stop us reverting to type against the weaker sides, that game at OT will be absolutely HUGE.

A good day, played our best XI and got a deserved win. Lets hope this is a sign of things to come. We've got issues, no denying that, but this season isn't over yet.

Another thing that just occurred to me is, after all the endless posts predicting doom and gloom, slagging off Benitez and also our title chances from the usual suspects, Craig H, Elvos and Joe King in the pre-match thread, none of them ever posts in post-match threads like this after an excellent performance and convincing win. Not one post - nothing. Anyone have any theories why this should be the case?

Well Joe has an excuse, but Craig will be along soon enough I suspect, he usually gives credit where it's due though to be fair

he's all we've been missing IMO from turing all these 0-0 draws into wins this season. even on a bad day the man has a knack of scoring. keep him fit for rest of the season and we've got a great chance of the league this year.

                        Absolutely

I don't think we play the most attractive football in the league, but with El Nino fit and firing upfront, the team, playing the formation we did today, can be the most effective at getting results, Last season with a fit Torres we blew past most of the weaker teams but came unstuck against the top ones. This season we've sorted that out, but without him we just haven't got enough goals in the team to finish the others off. If he stays fit to the end of the season I wouldn't say we've got a great chance, but it still could be as good a one as we've had in ages.
