And that's happened in just this thread ????

Anyway my question was i believe a valid one, Baldermart took it totally the wrong way, and replied with a childish and lengthy post about grammar, and one short more grown up one about English, but his first post implied to me he thought he knew something, i only asked.

ps. i really am a nice guy, honest. most of the time.

Please explain why that is so, Neil. All I wanted to do by this poll was to see how many posters would believe the official line to the letter. I could quite easily have just asked whether people believed the official line or not with a simple yes or no answer. But then I knew there would be some people who thought that it was a mixture of both, as the poll quite clearly indicates. Anything other than the first option is a measure of how many people do not entirely believe Rafa's explanation, either entirely or partially, with the obvious exception of the last option. The reasons as to why are besides the point. You either believe the official reason in it's entirety or not.

This has nothing to do with RCDNW/R, but more to see how many people have complete belief or faith in what Rafa or the club comes out with.

I haven't been rude or inflammatory towards you Neil, so please refrain from swearing at me.

My friend, it's just the internet. I don't doubt for a second that RedRascal and Operation are thoroughly nice fellas, and I hope they don't take me too seriously. I only had a dig back at Red for a laugh as he seemed to do the same to me to start with, so I thought he'd be up for a laugh. If not, maybe Red shouldn't be cheeky to start with!

Even a simple poll can turn into a ruck, who are we? Mancs?

Influence the poll? It's an online poll, not the presidential election.

Some people take this internet malarky way too seriously.

I wasn't really swearing at you though, was I?

We are almost inured to believing official explanations for anything so I doubt anyone is going to think there is only one reason for anything. So perhaps your poll simply measures the level of cynicism in society.

As for the specifics of the construction of your poll, the official line is more complicated than simply Keane's form - Rafa refers explicitly to getting more money for him now than selling him another time so clearly cash is part of it. For this reason alone your poll doesn't do what you say you intended it to do since you can't entirely believe the official reason and vote for the first option.

The 'sinister reasons' I mentioned revolve around the politics of the issue. The way your poll is set up anyone choosing to believe stuff about "Rafa's agenda" could well vote the same way as someone who thinks form was the major part of it but Keane's swearing when being subbed might have irritated Rafa too ('wrong mentality,' etc.) making the decision less straightforward.

Having read what you have written elsewhere, I can't help feeling you are interpreting the data in a way that serves your own theory, that is, that footballing reasons alone are not the heart of the matter. Given the way you have constructed your poll and your ignoring other possible interpretations of the data then this indicates flaws and possible bias, whether intended or otherwise.
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Your point about the first option seems rather pedantic to me. I agree maybe it could have been worded better, but the question in the poll was do you believe the official report and the first option was yes. Since nobody else has mentioned this point, it's fair to assume they took it in the way the question was intended. They simple agree with the official report.

There are no sinister reasons at all. It's quite simple really. You can either believe it in it's entirety, not believe it at all, or possibly think it's a combination of the above. It would appear that you are reading a little too deeply between the lines.

To take such a minor error in what's basically a quick internet poll is a tad over the top. And to take from that that I know **** all about polls and interpreting raw data etc, is well, a bit silly. Bias? Not at all. Flaws? Yes. But then as someone else has already said, it's hardly the Presidential Election is it? And I find it incredibly hard to imagine how it has significantly altered the outcome. People aren't that easily manipulated are they? I certainly hope not....

So far it's 24 to 90. You can be as pedantic as you like about the wording, but it's not going to swing it the other way is it? No.

People aren't easily manipulated but polls are.

You can wriggle about it all you want but your poll question and first option are mutually exclusive. The fact you choose to ignore other possible explanations for results indicates your limitations in interpreting opinion poll data.

Yes, it's only an internet poll but that's not a reason for me to ignore the fact it doesn't work as you claim you intended it, especially if you're going to start drawing conclusions about people's attitudes towards Rafa or the club.

There's not much point claiming you've been careful not to "taint the outcome of the poll" when its flaws undermine its integrity anyway.

And while we're on the subject of pedantry, what would you call your attacks on REDrascal's grammar?

I'm not wriggling out of anything. I've already said it was a flaw, but it's such a small one it's not going to swing the vote. Most people aren't too bothered about reading between the lines of an internet poll. Which is why nobody else has bothered picking up on it besides your good self.

It wasn't pedantry mate, if you read the thread you will see that it was a piss take in response to his initial little dig at me. If I really gave a ****e about correct grammar and language i'd be here for hours, and to be fair, i'm no expert myself.

Your point about the cash being part of Rafa's explanation doesn't make sense in this context either. Read the questions asked in the title and in the poll. The reason cash was mentioned was to explain why Keane was sold so soon after his arrival. I didn't ask that. I asked why he was being sold. Not why he was being sold so quickly. So that kind of renders your point, well, pointless.

You can read into it and be pedantic about it all you like Neil, but I very much doubt that most people are really that bothered by it and would have the intelligence to understand the meaning of the question. It's really not difficult. And it certainly does not mean that I know '****' all about the interpreting raw data etc. I'm just not anal about it when it's regarding a quick internet poll on an internet site about football. As I said, it's harldy going to dramatically swing the poll.

Having said that, I will ensure that I word things more carefully in future so as not to confuse our so easily confused site members.
