It takes a lot to get Carra's respect, Arbeloa certainly hasn't got it, it took Pepe a good while to get it and all.
Well if he wants to leave then thats a different matter altogether (as would be replacing him with a better right back if the opportunity came up).

But I still don't see that there's any reason to ditch Arbeloa as a result of Carra taking his frustration out on him.

If anyone's earned the right to give a teammate a bollocking it's him. Perhaps if Carragher's desire to win was matched in every player we'd have won the league this season.

You want arrogance, look at Ronaldo or Ashley Cole - players with a disdain for their fellow professionals and the people who pay their wages. But instead you choose to accuse someone who'd sweat blood for the badge on his shirt, without whose monumental efforts the most glorious night in our club's history would have been impossible.

The fact that Carragher shows such all-consuming commitment, even when the game is largely irrelevant, speaks volumes for his character and his dedication. It may not have looked pretty, but so what. It's a passionate game, sometimes players lose their tempers. As far as I'm concerned Arbeloa has needed a rocket up him for some time. Add that to the fact that he'd just seen his hopes of a title disappear for another year and I for one can certainly excuse Carragher's outburst.

      Arrogant? Jesus.
I wasnt accusing anybody of anything. I have nothing but respect for the man and his desire. But......

I don't however think he is above criticism as what appears to be the general opinion here. His reaction was out of order, whether he is a senior professional or not. Arbeloa in fairness - despite his limitations - gives his all and in general is solid and dependable. He is also a vast improvement over the other right backs Rafa in particular has bought. Carragher this season has done one or two things that in my view should not have happened, irrepsective of the person. Refusing to play right back - if true - is one such example

Jamie Carragher insists he is still pals with Liverpool team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa despite their furious bust-up at West Brom. Liverpool won 2-0 at bottom club Albion yesterday to relegate Tony Mowbray's side. But their win was overshadowed by an angry exchange late on between the two defenders. Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso had to step in to break up the astonishing argument in the televised clash at The Hawthorns.

But former England defender Carragher, 31, claims the spat is already history after they clashed over Arbeloa neglecting his defensive duties. Carragher said: "It happened in the heat of the moment. We have kissed and made up. It was nothing, honestly. "It's just one of those things that goes on from time to time. It's forgotten. We can't win the league now but there are a number of targets we can aim for. "We wanted to keep a clean sheet and we wanted Pepe Reina to have a chance of the 'Golden Glove' for the third season running."Pepe is one behind Edwin Van der Sar now and there's a chance Van der Sar won't play next week, so we wanted to make sure he got a clean sheet today.

"To be honest we were a bit lackadaisical in our defending all through the game and West Brom had too many chances. Maybe we took it a bit too easy and let them attack us too much." Goalscorer Dirk Kuyt said: "It shows that the team always want to win even though we weren't playing for anything.

"I think Jamie and Alvaro had a discussion about the situation. It was over in five seconds, and then after that everyone in the dressing room was happy because we'd won 2-0."
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Has our team spirit taken a real knock after that spat yesterday though? That is my worry. I know if one of my colleagues did that to me things would never quite be the same again.

Carragher had spent the night watching his favourite Anfield legend – Brucie.

I think that a necessary requirement to make it at the top level of sport is to have mental toughness enough to get over things like this.

The 1986 FA Cup Final springs to mind.

There's far too much 'analysis,' speculation and overreaction on here. Obviously that's true but I mean on this thread in particular.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
