anyways my contention is about rafa trying to convince the rest of the world that lucas is good enough to wear the shirt.the blind will probably take that crap but i'm not gonna.

Rafa is giving him support and trying to boost his confidence. Thats what managers are supposed to do

Why don't you post when he's had a bad game though?

It seems a bit strange that people have a go at Rafas man managment style then when he does his best to boost the confidence of a player that is under more pressure than most people have a go at him for it.

It is clear that Lucas will be racking up the aprearances at least untill Aqualani is fit and ready for first team action. So I would have thought him knowing that he publically has the backing of the manager when he steps on the pitch is a good thing, which would increase the chances of him putting in a better performance.

Aye it's terrible of Rafa to big up one of his players to give him more confidence. He should be more like some fans and slag him off at every possible opportunity.

Who has the greater footballing knowledge Rafa or yourself......be honest when you answer that.

Then make the judgement call on who is best placed to decide that Lucas is good enough to wear the shirt.

One more point of note. Rafa bought him, he is obvioulsy part of the "Football plan" If you are not up to speed with the phrase football plan, I suggest you do a little research.

All of that is perfectly fair. The criticism I have of Rafa regarding Lucas is getting to a situation where Lucas is a regular pick because of one injury in the squad. We used to have better cover in the squad than we do now. That's not a good situation to have got in.

Rafa, or thousands (tens of hundreds of thousands) of fans who don't rate him. It's a tough call. We see him only in matches; and he's not very good. Rafa sees him everyday and I suspect he shows enough in training to suggest he is worthy of a place. I am also guessing that he is not reproducing his training form in matches. Rafa may have been justified in opting for him if he thought he had more to offer, but the fact that he hasn't come good and we're in a situation where he almost has to play, well that is a result of Rafa's judgement.

I really hate that argument, with a passion.

Every single failed/sacked useless manager there's ever been in the Premier League has 'greater footballing knowledge' than posters on a forum - and it meant squat diddly, because they failed and got sacked.

Rafa also bought Dossena, and he's been dreadful. So it's not beyond feasibility that Rafa can get it wrong too. The fact that Rafa bought a player isnt evidence that the player's any good.

I would suggest he was meaning that he continues to play and praise him rather than that he bought him was the criteria being used. Your argument still applies, however it is clear that a renown top level football coaches opinion should probably be given more weight than that of the average forum poster.

There is an equally invalid argument strongly implied by flyboy that anyone who feels that Lucas is contributing is 'blind'.
