Maybe you're right but I don't recall him doing anything like this before. I mean he has commented on more established players but his Lucas comments were pretty conculsive IMO.

Again I could be wrong but I think Lucas gets a raw deal and the fact he is now in the Brazil squad is a further indication that it isn't just Rafa who rates him.

Kuyt's improvement has been absolutely immense, but i'm not sure about the 'proved wrong' theory. Doubters were stating that, at that time, he was poor - and he was. Now they're saying how he's improved, which he has.

I think people just comment on things as they happen to be at the time.

If Lucas improves to the point where he becomes a key part of the team, few would have a problem in acknowledging it. Those that do, would be agenda-driven idiots.

In seriousness, Lucas is decent. Nothing more and nothing less, IMO. We all want better than decent, though some of us are more patient and understanding about it than others.

Nah, i get what you mean but i honestly think for the most part, people call it as they see it. Perhaps though, i'm judging people according to what i do, and wrongly assuming they do the same.

Lucas is a very good player lacking in confidence. He's maybe not a world beater but I guess that's what you want from every single Liverpool player. It's a slightly deluded way to look at things.

You're one of the few who have a misconception of Lucas, even before seeing him actually play football matches. No matter how good he's played, you're not going to back up the lad. This is tiring FFS, but to be fair it's not only you who's at fault for this.

It's not because of Lucas that we're 5th in the league, but more because we've lacked something collectively.

The "Tens of thousands" comment was merely saying that it's not a one poster vs Rafa calculation as suggested.

I had no opinion of Lucas until he came here and played. You are right in that he isn't a world beater, but no, I don't expect every player at the club to be world class. Just expect the ones that aren't top notch to be playing for the reseves or sat on the bench 90% of the time. I don't spit at his car or post him hate mail, I just occasionally state on here that, like 99.99999999% of people who play football, he isn't good enough to play for our first team.

Saying he is "a very good player lacking in confidence" is complete guesswork. He hasn't shown himself to be a very good player in the PL and you are attributing this to a confidence issue. I will reserve judgement as to why he is not very good for us but in all honesty, the reason doesn't concern me. The notion that he will turn into a influential player worthy of a spot in the liverpool midfield if we all show him some love is, frankly, childish.

The day Rafa and his staff see he isn't improving anymore is the day he will be sold IMO. He's still got a long way to go but he could become a very good player for us IMO.

When flyboy says "I'll always think he is ****" it doesn't suggest that he willing to change his opinion on Lucas regardless of how good he might become.

I definitely and happily accept Kuyt has proved me wrong - however I think Craig has a point too; at the time I (along with lots of others) was on his case his performances were mainly poor. He's improved a bundle but in terms of being proven wrong, I can now see what he offers to us even when he's not scoring goals or explicitly prominent.

Dont disagree with anything there. A concern though, is that a player who is 'only' decent is a regular first teamer for us, when we're trying to win the title.

I appreciate that Aquilani will (presumably) be ahead in the pecking order when he's fit, but i dont know for a fact that he'll be any good yet.

He is somewhat of an anti-Lucas extremist though, so not sure it's fair to use him as a general example

Again I see what you are saying but this run in the side will only help Rafa form a better opinion of if he thinks Lucas will make the grade as a first teamer for years to come. We do lack strength in depth and to be honest I'm not worried about Aquilani because if we can get him fit I am convinced he is going to be a super star for us but I can understand why others would be slightly worried.
