Well, it was posted as it was directly related to pool, he was asked and was talking about us and is relevant to the forum.

A reply of I couldn't give a **** what he as to say is rather unnecessary if there's no hatred for him no?

Insulting and rude to the OP as well as Alonso.

Who cares. He's spanish ffs, he was going to home at some point.

And we all know how dissapointed he was with the latest tax hike to hit his wages. Madrid offered him tons more money and he jumped ship back home. I don't care about him

I don't forget that but what has that got to do with anything? Players come and go it's part and parcel of football and I don't know how many times I have to say this but I support Liverpool Football Club not individual players. Rafa lives and dies by his decisions and he thought Barry would be a better option considering Xabi hadn't been 100% the previous couple of seasons. We might not agree with Rafa but that's another discussion however he does everything with the best interests of Liverpool Football Club the club I support. I bet there are loads of players who have left Liverpool before and not wanted to but no-one gives 2 ****s about them. Xabi would have jumped at the chance to join Madrid last summer make no bones about it and as I've said I hope he has a long career I just hope he wins **** all and we batter Madrid in the CL this year.

No man, neither Xabi nor Rafa is evil.

I saw this come up in the Villa match thread, someone talking about Rafa "screwing Xabi over". That sort of thing is nonsense. Look, Rafa last summer initially thought he could sell Alonso for about £20m and get Barry in for close to £10m. Alonso had not been performing to his own high standards for close to 18 months, I think most of us, especially with the benefit of hindsight, would have thought selling him could be a mistake, but that sort of thing happens in football every single day. Manager sells player, manager buys other player. There's been a lot of revisionism going on too, if you actually look back at early last summer there were **** loads of quotes from Xabi flirting with the likes of Juventus; that may have been as it was clear Rafa was thinking of moving him on but Xabi was more than happy to look at his options. When it didn't happen as he wanted Rafa hung onto Alonso and made him a centerpiece of the team the following season. Xabi has a successful year then gets a huge money offer to return to his homeland after 5 years at the prime of his career and play for the biggest club there. So he leaves, we get big money.

None of that makes anyone evil, or wrong, its just what happens in football.

Insulting to Alonso? I'm sorry mate but who cares? He's a footballer who asked to leave Liverpool. Yes on his day he played great for us but he's gone, history, will never play for us again and in 2 years time no-one will even think about him. I really don't care what a Real Madrid player thinks about our first 3 games of the season.

I will always rate him extremely highly, I wish him well and I hope he does well with his new club once its not at our expense. Top player, great attitude and I for one dont hold anything against him. A real shame we had to lose him but I like the look of his replacement and I cant wait to see him put on a red shirt

If you re-read the post the point was it's unnecessary and insulting to the OP just to have a dig at Alonso who'll never read it anyway's. Which is a fairly strong reaction and makes no sense if you hold no hatred.

He posted a Liverpool related article, read it, don't read it, move on, not necessary to post replies of who gives a ****.

That's your opinion so fair enough.

I disagree with your opinion though.

No no no no no no. Rafa made a footballing decision to replace him with what he thought would be a cheaper player who would be more effective in the premiership. Right or wrong, that's all there was to it.

Xabi Alonso admits he is flattered by Juventus' interest in him, amid speculation his switch from Liverpool to Serie A could soon be completed.

The classy Liverpool schemer is currently preparing for Spain's Euro 2008 bid against a backdrop of ongoing uncertainty over his future.

Earlier in the summer he rejected out of hand reports that have linked him with a return to Spain, with Real Madrid credited as holding a long-standing interest in his services.

But when quizzed on Juventus, who Liverpool are engaged in discussions with, Alonso conceded it would be an honour to wear the prestigious black and white stripes.

"I know the Bianconeri follow me," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport from Spain's training camp.

"I know there has already been contact with Liverpool and my agent too.

"I can say that I am really proud to be linked with a strong and historical side like Juventus."

Alonso went on to his express his admiration for those players that stayed in Turin despite Juventus' demotion to Serie B for the part they played in a match-fixing scandal.

"I know what happened at Juve," he added.

"For this reason I have big respect for (Alessandro) Del Piero, (Gianluigi) Buffon, (Pavel) Nedved and (David) Trezeguet - big champions who had the courage to play in Serie B.

"This is something I like a lot. After four years in La Liga and four years in England, playing in Italy would be like completing
That's not a player being forced out. We were prepared to sell and he was prepared to leave. We were looking to make a profit that could be used in other areas, when that didn't happen he didn't go, and was a regular first teamer last year, ending with him getting a massive move to another huge club back home.

Time we just moved on. Or blamed Hicks and Gillett for putting us in a sell-before-you-buy situation for the last year rather than Xabi, or Rafa.
