He was treated like an idiot by Rafa, when Rafa tried to use him as a pawn in the persuit of Barry. He knew he wasnt wanted by Rafa after that and yet he still gave 100% for the team. He even out performed Gerrard on many occassions.

Why should he wait around for Rafa to try and use him again.

Alonso was a true Liverpool player. One of the best midfielders we have ever had. His attitude both on and off the field was 100%.

He will (already is) be badly missed and I hope he has a super season
at Real.

Not only do we miss Xabi's ability on the ball but also the protection he gave the defence with his tackling, positioning and reading the game. Them aspects of his game were overlooked, he worked his bollocks off every match and had great discipline.

Really, it's not though. It's a game that involves twenty-two men (often with substitutes and barring sendings off) kicking a ball about for ninety minutes (plus stoppage time) with extra time possible in some matches.

It's what happens, not what people think about it.

This again eh? Its utter bollocks. He's a professional footballer. Our MANAGER thought that the team would be improved with Barry in it. As he plays in the same position as Alonso that to me says our MANAGER thought that sacrificing Alonso for Barry would IMPROVE THE TEAM

Jesus whats with all the misguided sentimental rubbish? You can only have 11 players on the field. If it was felt that Barry would offer us something different to Alonso, and we couldn't have both, then to say that Xabi was 'used' is a little pathetic, IMO
