Come on there are some players you just don't sell. I suppose you jumped for joy when you heard Rushie was off, at the prospect of who we might get in?

Would you have sold Dalglish or Barnes in their prime? Some players define the moment and Torres is one of them, whatever his value.
      Really?

I wouldn't use Rushie as an example as that money bought Barnes and Beardsley - key men in arguably our best ever team.

I knew some-one would mention that - so did you know that was what was coming next?

No, no-one did. It worked.. on that occassion.
          Really?

Yes it did - can you imagine this place if it was around in the summer of 1988 - it would have been carnage.

History is littered with managers selling their biggest players only to improve the team - obviously the reverse is also true.

Agreed but my point is no fan would agree to it (not without knowing the next signings). Anyway, Rushie surely was a moll for Juve - look at how quickly we bought him back.

My point is you don't sell your best players, particularly if they define the moment, such as Torres.
              Really?

Also the problem is, if you sell your best players why are other good players going to come to you? When it shows a lack of ambition, and the players you already have are going to want to consider their options too.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Like I said I dont him sold but what if that was what took to get us the players we needed to make the team ona whole far stronger. If we sold him, bought the 4-5 players we wnted and that helped us challenge for the title week in week out then I'd say that was worth it. I also didnt want Alonso or Garcia sold but that slapped me in the face.

If you wouldn't say it in public, don't say it on a forum. I'd love to see what happens to people that attack others for offering an opinion in real life. In fact I have seen it and it's not pretty.

                        thanks anyway Andrew18
I appoligise if I offended you .But Iam getting tired of the Lucas bashing week in week out ,I suppose your opinion is different than mine on Lucas but I wouldn't say he was the worse player we have and IMO I think he has improved this season.I would say regular international players like Kuyt were letting Rafa down at the moment rather than Lucas.
                        Again appoligies for the upset

I think the problems are the combinations rather than players at the minute. The trouble is that we rarely have a settled team which has very much exacerbated the problem.

It is clear that an axis of Lucas and Mascherano will require more creativity and play making from the players behind the striker other wise we will be trapped playing too deep. Against City we had a lot of problems some of which at least looked to be down to fitness. In the second half when we were under attack their were rarely good quick out balls and Gerrard in particular (and later Benayoun too) just looked short of match fitness and pace.

I think a big reason Babel started was to give pace and mobility which could have allowed Gerrard to have less to do and to focus his energy more. Agger at the back also allows us to play higher up the pitch which helps. When those two went off injured we had a lot of rejigging to do and it showed. We always seem to be in that position - patching together a new team and trying to find new combinations that benefit one another.
