1 assist in 18.5 hours. Is that what makes a player unstoppable?

I just disagree with that last assertion. Last season he was at his most effective but he has until now in my view always been a big asset to the team. He is a very good close passer of the ball and has a decent cross. His longer passing is inconsistent and his shooting is confidence dependent. At present he along with the rest of the team is lacking in confidence and it is showing.Originally posted by saj View PostWhilst Kuyt would be better at pressing the opposition midfield/defences, it's what he does with the ball in this possesion that worries me. He's woeful, can't pass and cannot shoot. Whilst Gerrard is immense on the right, in the middle he is in a world of his own. Gerrard can pull off some amazing long shots and is a decent passer.
Maybe Aquilani could play well in the hole if Rafa decides to ever play him? I think we need an right orthodox right winger. Bar last season, Kuyt has been pretty poor fo us in the whole of his Liverpool career
Even now I think people are under valuing him but the problem is that we have a systematic problem and his assets don't really help to solve it when he is on the wing. Moved to the middle I think he helps to solve at least one of our problems which is that we play too much of the game in our own half - by winning possession back high up the field.
I'd normally agree that the improvement in Gerrards gain in the position of the striker would out weigh the gains from Kuyt in the middle but at present Gerrard is nowhere near his dynamic best. As such I think putting him in a position where he is required to do less would allow him to maximise the impact he has on a game. It's not a clear cut thing and I would expect Rafa to continue with what we have been doing but I think it remains an idea worth considering."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

What i don't get about Rafa and his insistence on playing Kuyt on the right side of your midfield is that his best position is clearly up front. That Ngog lad looks like he's done alright in the few games he's played, but there's all this talk of no back up for Torres, but what about Kuyt? Can't Benayoun, Babel or Rieira play on the right with Kuyt pushing up top?

When the whole team is playing well and attacking then Kuyt also does well. But at present he is not being allowed to get into the positions close to goal where his crossing and shooting ability can be used.
At present he is being asked to start to far away from goal and as he has no close control and no pace he will obviously suffer.
If I were manager I have to say he would have been out the door long a go as when your team is struggling you need your wide players to create something in the system we use.
But I do believe that when the team starts firing again, so will Kuyt. After all, he used to be a striker and you will not find many better RW who can finish better than Kuyt. His crossing is also good.
Get LFC more adavanced and Kuyt will be fine.Forwards.......

We have had too many injuries to contemplate the situation you describe.Originally posted by GraciousGooner View PostWhat i don't get about Rafa and his insistence on playing Kuyt on the right side of your midfield is that his best position is clearly up front. I would never class him as a big player and as one of Liverpools best. Which is suprising given that he is first choice striker for Holland and looks fantastic leading the line for them.Originally posted by Joe King View PostClearly not good enough when you are looking for big players to stand up and be counted. He had a rut a few seasons ago and used the excuse of his fathers death. What of it this year? Ryan Babel's slow death at a Liverpool player?
I wouldn't play him as the lone front man for Liverpool as we lack the creativity of the Dutch, but there was a strong case for playing him up top with Torres or N'Gog earlier on in the season.
But now we have strong nembers in midfield and Gerrard back in his role this no longer seems relevant - unless we stuck Stevie on the right (a backwards step IMO).Forwards.......

Benayoun on the right would certainly be a start and Gerrard off Torres would solve the problem.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostI would never class him as a big player and as one of Liverpools best. Have you not seen Kuyt play up front?
HE is slower than an ox, and cant hit a cows arse with a banjo. Not playing him as a stiker saved his career. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

The guy is woeful. I'm sorry but I can't remember a single player in the past 25 years that has given me reason to curse & shout at the TV as much as old Dirky boy.
When the team is struggling he looks even worse. Its times like these he needs to do more but sadly he's unable to. I'm convinced that during Tuesdays game he was still trying to complete his turning circle from the Man City game, thats how slow he is.
The fact that he's been beaten black and blue at birth with the the whole of the ugly tree doesn't help. That painful expression on his face when he's just huffed and puffed he way up yet anothers defenders arsehole instead of crossing the ball. He's the luckiest person alive to have played so many times for us.
His effort can never be questioned. But that shouldn't hide his lack of quality. He should be dropped on form alone.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Kuyt is not a winger. 6 years in and we're still no closer to having decent width.

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."
