I'll be honest Joe and say that the system used by Benitez is not one that I would favour. I like most fans want to see my team attacking and as such I would deploy attacking players in attacking positions, and give them at least some freedom to express themselves.

But Benitez has a clear idea of how he wants the game played and it is a style that has evolved with every year he has spent in England, as he realises with each passing year what is best required.

What is clear is that last year he grew frustrated by what he saw on the pitch and annoyed at the teams inability to break teams down, even when having a more or less full squad to choose from. So this season he has altered his approach and has gone for a more dynamic, attcking midfielder and is looking for more attacking full backs.

It could be argued he went for the same approach at the start of last season, but he failed to get Barry, whilst Dossena was a total failure.

I think we must be fair to Benitez in the circumstances and say that he has not had the chance to put his plan into action due to being severly handikapped by the injury crisis. For this reason I implore the people I make contact with to give Benitez until the end of the season.
    Forwards.......

TBF, Spurs have Aaron Lennon who until injury was playing the best he has ever done. So that's not a big insult really.

Say what you want about Ngog and Babel (I'm a fan of Ngog but I think Babel is ****) - if you give all three the same amount of time on the pitch then I think Ngog and Babel would create and score more than Kuyt. And that's what it's all about at the end of the day
I think we have to give Benitez some leeway in the fact that Kuyt has always been fit and so has always been available for selection, whilst others who can play RW have been injured for the most part.

And the comparison to N'Gog is unfair, as Kuyt for the most part has played on the right - a position N'Gog has never done so.

On the subject of Babel, I have made my thoughts on him quite clear in the past. I think he deserves a better chance than what he's had. But I'm in the minority on that one so I do not really get the sudden call from fans for Ryan to play - especially when he's injured now anyway.

That's a fair point. But mate, up top - if you compared Kuyt and Ngog to get you goals as a lone striker then at the moment then I would go with Ngog every time.

I think every Red would say the same. If I was looking for a partner for Torres I would go with Kuyt as he could hold the ball up better for Fernando, but if I was looking for the lone front man I would go for N'Gog. Think he stretches teams more with his pace.

Seriously, after three seasons at the club, what is Kuyt's role and his best position? You seem puzzled as to why he's still here and I have no idea as to what he brings to any club. In terms of negating teams, he can do a job but how many games does the team need to negate the opposition? Liverpool should be about winning games, not nullifying them, which is another axe I have to grind with Benitez. Kuyt's a grafter but when push comes to shove and you need a spark, he's unlikely to bring it and in tough spells like this current one, Kuyt won't contribute to the side to get them out of it. Benayoun would, Riera might, Gerrard would, Torres would. Kuyt in a million years wouldn't.

A point as to why Kuyt did well in Holland was the space given around him. We know he can't trap a bag of cement etc and it's exactly that. His goalscoring masked his real inabilities and in a league which is incredibly quick and requires really good technique to control and move, Kuyt simply doesn't cut the mustard. Give Kuyt space and he might look good unfortunately, in the league, where Liverpool are mainly concentrating on now, he won't.

I agree Joe, but it can't really be argued that he had a good season last year. Maybe he will play himself back into form, we'll just have to see.

What I will say is that Kuyt is a lot better than most give him credit for, but how good he is and whether he should be in the best XI at a club like Liverpool is seriously open to debate. On last seasons form I would say yes he is. But on his other time here it would be a resounding No form me.

Ok, well I think I'm going to summarily put that site on the Est "discouraged" list (currently contains koptalk, anything related to livertweet... oh, and that site that got Tuncay and Tugay mixed up last summer, lol). Much though I believe in freedom of expression generally, I've also got no time for those who write about our club purely for malicious purposes - just as he can say what he likes on his site I think we're allowed to say what we don't want on here. Negativity in the current climate is understandable and perfectly legitimate, but I'm sure people can find plenty of that to reproduce from other, much better informed and much less disingenuous sources without recourse to his self-important nonsense.

To that end I'm going to see if I can do something to amuse myself with the word filter and his site's url......

I think this'll do for now, although better suggestions are more than welcome via pm

Edit - yeah, that works, was a bit worried it might filter all mentions of "liverpool" or "kop" too, which would have been a bit wrong

Yeah, but he worked hard (to get the desired move to Real Madrid because he was treated so bad by the manager who wanted to sell him for doing nothing for two seasons).
