nobody can claim we were excellent today or a joy to watch, thats just nuts.
I think we passed the ball well. We were pants in the final third, but we were the better footballing team.

Brainwashed me? If you look at my posts you'll see that I am fairly consistent and results so far along the years have fairly proved my point that Rafa is doing a good job.

Your rants on the other hand are ill informed, fuelled (or should I say brainwashed) by the general negative stance in the media.

I'm more negative myself so I don't see it as a problem. Rafa is never happy, its well documented, Torres will score 3 and he'll talk to him about the chances he missed.

Tony wasn't ranting - he was stating a fact. You on the other hand are brainwashed by the big fat 0 of Everton and the curvaceous 2 of liverpool. If you read between the lines, the evidence indicatates we did not play well. But we don't care. Confidence is the key given Liverpools predicament and this was the perfect tonic to hopefully spearhead a long winning run.

          WE DID NOT PLAY WELL.

bs, just a different point of view than yours.

for example, "I thought we were excellent today" is complete tripe and not something that 99% of the supporters will agree with.

I'm happy with the win, but not the performance.

No but we played well and Kuyt worked hard for the team

I'm pretty sure Rafa has congratulated the players for winning today though.

I'd like a little bit of relativity when we win guys and whilst we didn't play like champions I think we were good enough and played a decent passing game. We lacked creativity upfront as Ngog was left too isolated, add to that the fact Gerrard had a poor game, which didn't help. Thought our midfield was excellent, especially Mascherano who was a cool head personified and we needed someone like him today. He passed it well, kept it simple and always gave an option to our defenders when we were trying to build from the back.

Is that enough reason to stick your elite whatever it is up your arse? You seem a little over enthusiastic with that type of thing!

As I said, I hope you fall ill because of high blood pressure ranting and moaning for another 4 1/2 years about Kuyt, Lucas etc... mate. Maybe we could be getting rid of you quicker.

We weren't great, far from it but in terms of the attacking stuff people need to remember Yossi and Torres didn't start for us today(Yossi played 15mins).

I'm sure if they did start and Gerrard had been a bit sharper we would have looked alot more threatening in the final third.

3 points is 3 points though and to keep a clean sheet was a nice bonus considering the way we've been defending this season.

Just picking at your post here Pete, but can you see the problem here? It has been the same problem that I have been banging on about all season.

You say the midfield were excellent yet admit that we lacked creativity. Most are in agreement in saying that N'Gog did well with the service that he got, and I wouldn't disagree with that. So we can't blame him. IMO that leaves Gerrard and the four midfielders. Johnson has been a revelation this season at getting forward but his main job is to defend, so I would not blame him or any of the other defenders.

We all agree that Gerrard did not look fully fit and was far from firing on all cylinders. But should we really be relying on just one player to create everything for us week in, week out?

No we should not. And in fairness Gerrard did not have much to work with today either.

The problem today and all season is the very midfield that you have been praising all season.

A central midfield of Lucas and Mascherano is a very safe, compact pairing. They will win countless balls all game and do any number of nice safe passes. But they will create next to nothing for the most part. Lucas has not scored all season and Mascheranos solitary strike today is going down as an own goal. But it's their failure as a pair to get attacks started that is the major worry.

If they had two brilliant, dazzling wingers on either side of them then I would say they would likely get away with offering nothing on the attack, especially with a fit Gerrard in front of them. But with the injury list we've had this season they've not had that luxury and they as a pair have been badly exposed.

Today they looked even worse because they had the slow Aurelio and Kuyt on the wings, neither renowned for their dazzling runs.

If we are to put up with Lucas and Mascherano as a pairing we need with urgence players like Riera and Yossi on the wings, or Babel. Otherwise we need Aquilani to come in for one of the two.

For me Lucas would be the odd one out. They both gave solid battling displays today, but that is what they do. What the team needs is some creativity. Because getting played of the park for large parts of the game by a ****e Everton team is not something that should be happening to our club.

In responce to my above post some people may argue that we have scored quite a few goals in the league and that conceding is our problem.

But if you think about it, we scored 10 of our goals in two games, the only games Gerrard has started and finished in CM. And by and large if a team offers nothing going forward and lacks creativity they will invite pressure onto their defence.

Sort out defending at set pieces and add creativity and Liverpool will play well and win games on a regular basis again.

They were also games where Riera, Benayoun and Torres played and to be honest each had more to do with the result than Gerrard. Who a couple of cameos aside has been pretty poor this season.

Rafa will never trust Gerrard in CM in games like today where the midfield will be contested. So don't go getting your hopes up.
