Fair enough, I just think when teams park the bus he'll consider the option of Gerrard in CM. When there's a chance that there is going to be a lot of off the ball work to do, he won't.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostWe'll call it coincidence if you like. And it has nothing to do with Rafa not trusting Gerrard, as Lucas and Mascherano were available for both those games. It is more to do with Gerrard being are best option playing up front with Torres.
Gerrard is too good at choosing the right time to add #'s to midfield to be wasted pressuring players continuously. When we had attacking options on the wings, he and Benayoun in particular would swap with Lucas, drop deep and try the killer balls. Doing the right thing at the right time when least expected is the best way to use him.

I sleept through most of the match do to the worst hangovers I remember having for ages - self-inflicted of course by getting myself in to the mother of all benders...
I was only awake for the two goals
But reading the comments on here it seems like I didn't miss much besides watching a full derby win.
But hopefully this will bring some level of confidence back to the team, as it is really needed. I mean from the comments on here we where actually the poorer of the sides, and that is in itself not a good sign. But I reckon we will finish 3-4 without any problems, but the league title will fall to chelsea this year, and I think the scum will get second.

Just thought it was worth noting that Mascherano has heard the criticism of his shooting according to the article in the News section and seems intent on continuing to do it none the less. I know he scored yesterday but as far as I can see was going miles off target before the deflection. I can only see it encouraging him though which I'm not sure I'm happy about unless he has been on the Lampard course on 'How to score consistently through seemingly miraculous deflections of otherwise piss poor shots'."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Is good enough for me. Lampard scores a lot of flukies, about time someone picked up on that school of thought.Originally posted by dww View PostJust thought it was worth noting that Mascherano has heard the criticism of his shooting according to the article in the News section and seems intent on continuing to do it none the less. Fair point.

just about getting my head together after yesterdays epic all day! got the pub about 11:45am - didn't move till way after the barca/madrid game about 9pmish! - hurt is where i am today!
We weren't very good - almost too nervy, there was a period in the 2nd half were every player seemed to mis control their first touch. That said we got the 3 points, 2-0 and any blue****e complaining they were unlucky can **** off. They were the home team and they didn't do enough to deserve anything. 2 offside goals count for nothing. One real chance sliced in the first half and granted reina made an outstanding double save, but other than that they made nothing. Also insua was unlucky with his header which was agreat save from howard. Also - not much really being made of it but that dirty ****ing cheating cunt fellaini should have been sent off for the elbow on lucas! time and again he does it....every ****ing game, he looks at the man first, then jumps in leading with his elbow. should have been sent off
there is a few negatives too take....we looked nervous, we lacked any real spark/creativity, are squad lacks some real depth, and gerrard needs a ****ing good rest cause he looks ****ed. We need to get aquilani fit and playing now! it's starting to really **** me off that situation.
Positives - we ****ing won, we had to, and we did. Reina showed why he is surely the best keeper in the league if not the world. And mascher was outstanding yesterday - our best outfield player!i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I thought N'Gog was tidy yesterday, nothing more than that. He collects the ball well in wide areas, and lays off nicely. He didn't get in the CB's faces at all, he wasn't aggressive enough and most of the time, in central areas, the ball didn't stick.
At the time we made the change up front (Kuyt up, N'Gog off, Benny right) we were facing a very uncomfortable final 15 mins, but it didn't happen - we actually started playing. Most people have put that down to the introduction of Benayoun, but I thought it was mostly down to the improved physical presence up front. For the second goal, Kuyt used his Dalglish sized arse to back in and win the header that caused so many problems for Yobo. That's something we missed all afternoon.
It was a patchy performance - but one IMO explained by a complete lack of presence up front (N'gog and Gerrard).

It wasn't just his physicality but Kuyt's running and link play upfront was very good.
I agree that Ngog gets pushed off the ball too easily. I think he needs to learn to use his body better and on occasion to just let the ball run and try to take a defender with his pace (I think this would but him room that would make it easier for him to keep the ball on other occasions)."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Argentina captain let fly from 30 yards and although his shot appeared to be heading just off target it took a wicked deflection off the Everton centre-back and went spinning past goalkeeper Tim Howard.
That goal gave Liverpool something to hold on to and they defended resolutely under increasing Everton pressure until Dirk Kuyt scored the second after Howard half-saved Albert Riera's shot.
Mascherano, however, is determined to claim the opener, which would be only his fourth career goal after hitting just one for Liverpool and two for Argentina.
"I think it's my goal because I tried to score with the shot," said the 25-year-old, whose celebration in front of the visiting fans at Goodison Park showed just what the strike meant to him.
"It was a really important moment for me because I want to do my best.
"This season some people have criticised my shooting but I am trying hard to improve it and I am happy."
Manager Rafael Benitez believes that although Mascherano's primary role is as a defensive midfielder he is capable of getting more goals.
"Since he arrived here we have been talking about how he can score goals from outside the penalty area," said the Liverpool boss.
"Sometimes he was trying and on Sunday was really good for us, a bit lucky but really good.
"He can try (shooting from distance) because he can do it well."
The win lifted Liverpool up to fifth, two points behind Arsenal, but Mascherano said the players had to put the derby result behind them and look to continue winning.
"It's important for us to keep going. We cannot keep thinking about Sunday," he told liverpoolfc.tv. "It is important for us to try to win three or four more games in a row and keep moving up the table."
Rafa is encouraging him

So he's ridiculously inconsistent, and has a wild technique, but is pretty capableOriginally posted by wiw View PostHe is a pretty capable shooter, just ridiculously inconsistent. He strikes the ball well, his technique is just a bit wild and OTT, especially compared to someone like Lampard who seems to just toe it and hope for the best
