talking about the league smartarse. in the portuguese league they were.

the CL is a cup competition and you dont have to be the best squad in it as we well know. rafa is better than mourinho in the CL.

Yes he was good tonight. But he is the worst defender I've ever seen at the club. Plays against Spurs away, we get thrashed 4-2, away to Fulham, lose 3-1 and he gets sent off, played tonight and we could have conceded 5 or 6 if they were clinical. One lazy ******* at getting back when he is our furthest player up the pitch. No wonder Dortmund pissed themselves that we took him off them.

Even if money or the Americans ability to pick a manager wasn't an issue, there aren't really any suitable managers available

I still think our problem is width. Instead of the midfielders players giving us it we've made the fullbacks do it instead, which gives us problems. Firstly our fullbacks generally haven't been good enough. Secondly, this gives us a far too robotic approach - midfielders drift in and run into 17 players, fullbacks overlap and fluff the cross or float a beauty straight onto the opposing defenders head and we lose the second ball.

Most importantly though it cuts out the early diaganol ball from deep - the Alonso special. It's something we used time and again in Rafa's first few years but it's disappeared altogether now. We have players in the team capable of it but we never ever do it anymore because we're do busy ****ing around trying to do the robotic approach above. We're just limply prodding at teams with short passes and it doesn't work if you don't have players who can force something in the final third, or someone who can put in a decent cross. Too predictable

So yeah. Problems in the wide areas, nothing new really That and a crippling lack of confidence and a whole host of other reasons why we're terrible this season. Thankfully every other team in the league seems to be inconsistent and **** half the time as well. I still think we'll get 4th, and it'll be Rafa in charge

Absolutely, I've made similar points somewhere in one of the many threads currently going one

I love Rafa. But the one thing that gets me is his incessant interference in the game. Why doesn't he just sit down and let the players play. I'm sure his constant mythering of the players just confuses them and ****s them right off. It does me! His tactics quite plainly don't work lately. We never pick up any second balls. We bring eberyone back in defence when defending set pieces. Surely it's worth a gamble to leave a player upfield to pick up on the half chance? Every team we play seems to do this and inevitably it pays dividends for them.

We have no width. we have no wide players overlapping and bombing forward to the touchline to get a cross in. Thank **** we have just signed Maxi and i cant wait to see Riera back and have them on both flanks supplying Our attack.

To me that's a top class team. I can't see why that wouldn't win a league etc.
World class players, not many in the world better than them!

                      Top class players

aurelio no played enough this season, carra seems on a downer atm. Agger looking better.

That's our best eleven, but at the moment you can easily imagine that team playing **** and losing at home to ****e.

I'd like to see that team, Insua needs taking out of the firing line and we need to add with to our side, the wide midfielders are cutting in too much reducing space and making things too conjested.

Any idea when Riera will be back? Or how long Gerrard and Torres will be out for that matter.

We won't have Johnson for a while though

I think the width Riera and Rodriguez can provide will make alot of difference.
