I think the point some what missed by the idea of resting players is that we need to get some form and confidence back. Even when we were getting points we weren't playing particularly well. If the team gains a bit of momentum in the Europa league which transfers in the league it will at least balance the risk of injuries in my view.
I guess it's the same debate that you see every year re: relegation threatened teams and the domestic cups. The long term experience of that has been that it can go either way I would think. I honestly couldn't pull out any convincing thesis about what separates the teams that do well with one strategy or the other.

They'll always use that kind of caveat, to firstly protect Rooney's ego, and secondly so that Sir Scumalot cant be open to the kind of criticism that Rafa got in the past for 'resting' Gerrard and/or Torres. If they say Rooney had an injury, then that's Scumalot's excuse.
It must've been niggling hard, for a good 40 minutes or so, before Shrek was finally tempted onto the turf by a trail of offal.
Daniel Agger underwent a scan on an injured knee today after leaving Anfield on crutches following the 2-1 win over Blackburn.
Doctors discovered severe bruising to the Dane's right knee, and he will now undergo treatment at Melwood.
A club spokesman said: "Daniel underwent a scan this morning which has shown severe bruising to the bone in his right knee. The knee is still very swollen and he will continue to receive treatment at Melwood this week."
Agger was one of several Liverpool players to pick up knocks during a physical encounter.
Fabio Aurelio strained his quadriceps, while Maxi Rodriguez was left with stud marks just below his chest.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
Contrary to what the papers say, and even considering what’s gone on before, I’ll be very very surprised if Spain start with Torres. It will not benefit club or country and makes no sense for anyone involved. I’m sure Rafa has spoken to Del Bosque and they have an agreement in place.

Martin Skrtel will be out for up to eight weeks with a broken metatarsal he sustained against Unirea Urziceni last week.
Liverpool said the defender would be absent for most of the rest of the season with the injury to his right foot.
Skrtel will not need surgery, the club said on their website, but the recovery process means he will be unavailable to Rafael Benítez until the end of April.
The 25-year-old Slovakian had to be substituted midway through the second half of Liverpool's 3-1 Europa League win in Bucharest.
Liverpool are poised to offer Javier Mascherano a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until 2014 and out of the clutches of Barcelona. The Spanish club have declared their interest for the Liverpool midfielder after Pep Guardiola, their coach, identified the Argentina captain as the perfect foil for Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta almost a year ago.
Talks are continuing and Liverpool are hopeful the player will agree to stay beyond February 2012, when his present deal expires
