You say most of his signings were dodgy.

what percentage? Then ask yourself what percentage of signings of Benitez or Wenger or Fergie's signings are/ were dodgy.

Houlliers biggest issue was that he lost the team.

He signed some muppets certainly but who hasnt? I remember when we were all creaming ourslves over the two gems who had just won the U20 tournament for France single handedly.
We couldnt belieive our good luck at the time.

However he did sign some grea players whom with gArcia and Alonso and josemi got us to the final of the champs league which we then won.

How many of the team that Liverpool had when they won the Champs league where signed by Houllier?

Do the maths yourself, and he was never provided the resources that Benitez had at his disposal.

Benitez was the better manager in my opinion of the two, but Houllier should not be dismissed. He gave us some great nights, more than Benitez, but not as much hope as Benitez.

          More wum ****e.

Benitez did consistantly better than Houllier did in the league, did far better in Europe and bought far better players and yes, he did have less at his disposal, when did Houllier ever have a net spend of 0 exactly?

            gary m

the rest wherent good enough at all. i would say that benitez has a better hit ratio of players and probably spent less on average every year.

i liked houllier as a man but he didnt leave a great team. look at the players who left they didnt go on to do alot did they?

i am not slating Houllier. I am using context and that context is that Houllier was backed Rafa wasnt to the same extent.

however it is worth noting that Houllier completely turned us around. He introduced new methods the work at melwood brought back discipline. So Rafas job was easier than it would have been a few years earlier. However the team wasnt great that he left behind and Houllier got a real slating (more than rafa) in his last year.

both improved the club, in different ways. now saying Houllier didnt sign alot of good players isnt slating him.

Really? Do any of them fall into the Diao or Ferri category? Both bought when we had money to spend. Rafa has left the club with a much better side than Houllier did.

All better than Diao and Ferri. The only one there that was really not worth it was Josemi, but we swapped him pretty quickly for a much better player.

Add JAR to that list, but i agree, we had plenty of pretty average players under ged.

No, I am saying all those players where better purchases than Diao and Ferri. Them not working out happens, that doesn't mean they weren't better players and still better purchases.
