I think torres and gerrard would play for a season under roy to see how we go if he meets them in SA and funds, a few signings & sales are discussed. If he says the prem is his priority only and he's not going for the uefa or cups then they'll be tempted. last season was a freak and we all know that. We should finish 4th and with less injuries, better form and no real european football theres the real chance we'll bounce back to something like 5-10 points off the title. nuts i know but its actually quite possible.

However, if for them the issue is the owners and the club's short term direction then I think they'll be looking to move regardless of who's in charge (Kenny or not). Their futures are closely tied to each other. If one goes, then the other is going to be much less optimistic and more likely to jump. Gerrard is the deciding factor for me. I think madrid and mourinho is a really attractive option for him and i wouldnt be surprised if he went given his age, what's on offer and our situation over the next couple if years. its quite beilevable that he'll be close to retirement by the time we could be back challenging.

then if gerrard goes, does torres too? quite probably.

Essentially at this stage I just want us to have a manager. Almost any half competent one would be an improvement. If we are going to be selling players we need to be working in the market now - there seem to be a number of potentially decent free transfers and the like around.

The worst thing would be to continue along with no plan and no one in charge and then have to put together a shed load of deals in the first weeks of the season having had no preseason to settle new players or acclimatise existing ones to a new style.

It would be mental. If we're going to go for a nutter, it has to be Slaven Bilić though.

He clearly has a decent eye for a player and developed and got the best out of a lot of players at Fulham. Given our financial situation I've more or less given up hope of winning anything short term so I'd like to see him bring through some of the young reserves and refresh the squad.

If his team plays like his Fulham and Blackburn teams then I expect people to criticise our style still. If that does happen I'll be interested to see how the media and fans react.
Don't give up altogether. We're not likely to win the League or Champions League any time soon, but if Hodgson could take Fulham to the Europa league final then he must have a decent chance of winning it with a better squad like ours?

It's the league I'd be worried about. Despite everything, and all rafa's tactical failings against lesser teams, we were very unlucky this year and still could have scraped 4th. Next year will be harder with Spurs and City strengthening and us losing players....for the first time in 10 years I don't think 4th is a realistic expectation, it's become a hope instead.

Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez has tipped Kenny Dalglish to revive Liverpool's fortunes by succeeding him as manager at Anfield.

Less than a fortnight ago the Spaniard left the club by mutual consent prior to taking the reins at the European champions and has backed the Kop legend, who quit the same job in February 1991, to become the man tasked with putting the club back on an even keel.

Roy Hodgson is still the odds-on favourite to take the managerial hot seat as the Reds prepare to make a formal approach to Fulham despite Dalglish, who was involved in the selection process, asking managing director Christian Purslow to be considered himself.

Speaking at his unveiling at Appiano Gentile yesterday, Benitez hailed Dalglish, who worked with him last year during his role as a youth ambassador, as "the best man for the job" and warned owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to listen to growing calls by fans to appoint the Scot.

He said: "I think they should look at Kenny Dalglish. He is the best man for the job. The owners should listen to the fans because they are unhappy.

"No one knows the club better than Dalglish, and he would be perfect there. He wants the job and in my opinion he should get it."

Benitez also moved to quash speculation that player unrest had been a key factor in his departure from Merseyside and insisted that he received well-wishes from the majority of his former players, including captain Steven Gerrard.

"Before I left, I spoke with 95 per cent of the Liverpool players, and I contacted Steven Gerrard on his birthday," he added.

"The majority said, 'Thank you for everything'. I spoke with Gerrard, and he was fine. In fact, he wished me well. I left on a positive note and the relationship with the players was good.

"It was hard for me to leave Liverpool. It was really difficult and I was sad to go. It was not easy, because the fans on the Kop were always fantastic to me. All the fans were like that. It was a sad day when I left, but I had to do it."

Several of Benitez's former confidentes in the Anfield dressing room are heavily tipped to join him at Inter, with Dirk Kuyt and Javier Mascherano the most likely candidates to be interested in a reunion, but he remained tight-lipped on any potential transfer targets.

"I cannot talk about players at other clubs," said Benitez.

"I will discuss possible transfer targets with the people here, but I think we will be looking to bring in top-level players."

I don't see why we can't go for a top class manager and go all out for the league next season.

If we're analysing by that method then, by your own reckoning most of us don't want Dalglish even more than we don't want Hiddink, as 82% of those who voted want him even less than the 70% who don't want Hiddink.

That's quite a negative vote by any standard and hardly ties in with an assertion that "most of us" want Dalglish - unless maybe the votes are being counted by a union official I suppose!

I think it's fair to say that given the list of names above, a lot of people wouldn't choose Dalglish as their first choice.

However, given a more realistic list of names (which appears to basically consist of Dalglish and Hodgson), they would choose Dalglish as their first choice.

Because no top class manager would touch us with a barge pole as things stand at this moment
