The "possible" arrival of Mourinho is entirely dependent on a change of ownership. I've no inside info but I've been saying for the past 2 weeks that something must be afloat cos Rafa would not be leaving unless he was being pushed. In fairness to the man he loves the place & so do his family (which matters a lot). I've been utterly convinced that the deal has been done for a change in ownership with a series of events over the summer (new players, new manager).Originally posted by MrMichael View PostSo having not been driven round the bend by the on-field debacle we should be driven round it by circular discussions about a manager we won't get?
Madrid is a pretty damn big stimbing block though.... Kaka, Ronaldo and unlimited funds, or Lucas, Babel and the spare change behind the sofa?
But its by no means the only one. Our appauling off-field situation is most definitely another, as is the lack of CL football next year (and possibly for some time coming). We've been waiting and hoping for several years for something to change re. the ownership situation, there might seem like "some possibility" now but that's really not strong enough for me. Just look at the ownership threads from the news forum, this years, and last years. and the one before that....
I genuinely believe there's some seriously wishful thinking going on that is completely incongruous with the reality of our situation, and with how those who don't support our club will see it. Sure, for one of us, managing LFC would be the pinnacle of everything a manager could do or achieve in football. I'm not sure for most high-calibre managers out there it would be any more than one of several dozen high-profile jobs that would interest them if all things were equal, and given the off-field mess, complete lack of money etc, really rather unattractive right now compared to many positions. You have to admit surely that on balance of probability, Jose Mourinho will not be the next manager of LFC should Benitez depart in the next few weeks? And as that probability is really rather low, we really could be making some effort to talk about more realistic options rather than this debate constantly returning to the same point.
Perhaps its not as absolutely definite as I have been making out, but I'll give you 5-1 odds if you'd like a wager on it?
As for Madrid, again I'm only basing this on my opinion but if he goes there & wins the league what does he get? If he gets to the CL final prob the sack! Jose is a complete egomaniac. I have no doubts what-so-ever that the prospect of winning #19 with LFC (and all the complete & total adulation that would attract) is far more appealing. Imagine him winding up Fergie "I put Liverpool back on their perch". He couldn't control himself.
Maybe I'm dreaming and the next few months will pan out completely differently. ... its just tha I don't think so!

Maybe a manager can only take so much crap from a ****e pair of owners, getting stick from the media and a section of his clubs fans who don't know diddly about the reality behind the scenes.Originally posted by bertie View PostThe "possible" arrival of Mourinho is entirely dependent on a change of ownership. I hope you're not putting me in that bracket. I for one don't know how he's managed to put up with those 2 c*nts. But he has. Why did he sign the new contract last year? Did he think that they were on some "road to Damascus" conversion??? He knew EXACTLY what he was getting. He chose to stay. Can't see whats changed since March 2009. As for the media, since when does Rafa (or us) give a f*ck about them. They're been hating on LFC for years. A truly great manager would use it to create a siege mentaility if he felt it was that much of an issue.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostMaybe a manager can only take so much crap from a ****e pair of owners, getting stick from the media and a section of his clubs fans who don't know diddly about the reality behind the scenes.

Don't know enough about you to put you in any bracket, and would'nt be so presumptious, if i had thought you fell into that bracket though, i would have said so.Originally posted by bertie View PostI hope you're not putting me in that bracket. However, Why he signed his contract is unknown to us all...he has said he was given certain assurances....which have now changed, as for why we should care about the media..tell it to the thousands and thousands of lfc fans who imo obviously do.Last edited by Vermilion; 03-05-10, 10:19 AM.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to draw the comparison I did with Arsenal in previous seasons and conclude that this season has been more difficult to achieve 4th.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We already have a top class manager.Originally posted by captainfog View PostNo investment means no top class manager, ie no Maurine (my first choice), Hiddink etc etc etc.
No investment means we also need someone who can wheel and deal and motivate the players to get the best out of them. Top of that list would have to be Woy Hodgeson or maybe even, dare I say it, 'arry Redknapp........... Not popular choices, I know, but who else knows the premiership and has those two qualities???
I've just watched Rafa's post match conference and I think everything will be decided after that meeting with Broughton this week. If Rafa fails to get assurances that he'll be backed (that means without new owners as Broughton won't be able to give him any assurances on that front), then he'll probably be on his way.
I just wondered what would have happened if Alex Ferguson was sacked after 6 years of insipid and dire football 20 years ago. It's easy to judge when you don't know of the pressues associated with the job and the difficulty to compete with clubs who've got more money. It increases the likelihood that you'll make mistakes because the margin of success is so thin.
Add to that the expectations that this club have. They are so big and doesn't take into consideration that we're far behind in terms of financial strength.

it would be nice if i was wrong but we probably have as much chance of getting the special one as we have hoping that some ubber rich arabian liverpool fan with twice as much money as the people at man city come along and rescue us.......the reality is probably a choice from this list and in this order
1...o neil
2...hodginson
3...dalglish
4...redknap
well thats my guess anyway
but if rafa walks before we have new owners i think we should at least ask kenny to stand in untill the new owners get the guy they want

The owners are the key to this whatever happens manager and squadwise in the summer depends on who is running the club. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Whilst I agree with this, I've got a feeling that Rafa probably doesn't see G&H moving out for quite some time yet. From the few sources I've read in relation to the potential sale of the club, it seems that the asking place is unrealistic and that Hicks won't budge on it. Thats why I think Rafa will be off to Italy.Originally posted by Frenchie View Postbored with this now..the endless pro Rafa anti Rafa lets get Maureen lets not blah blah blah..
