There was an interesting point raised last night in the 5Live chat after the Chelsea game which was that the big teams in the PL other than Chelsea seem to want to create a dynasty with managers in long term and policies to develop different levels of the club. Chelsea seem to have tried to switch to that policy, well everywhere but the manager, but their fans still have the expectations that they will buy in upgrades to the team even though that hasn't really been the way for a couple of seasons. This summer will be a big crossroads for them when they decide how many of their old timers to persevere with and whether Ancelloti was the right choice.
I think part of the choice of any new manager at a top team has to be about how you see them developing the squad long term. Any change is likely to derail the existing structures which in our case are only a year old.
I do wonder if in a few years the talk will be less of our lack of transfer funds not because they have gone up but because only City will have much more than us by necessity or design.
