Rafa Benitez is not happy with Albert Riera
The Spain international was briefly suspended last month for his outburst, in which he also criticised manager Rafael Benitez for failing to communicate with his players.
An angry Benitez immediately sanctioned a loan move to Russia - whose transfer window is currently open until next week - and froze Riera out of his first-team plans.
However, now the escape route to Moscow appears to have been closed off after the two parties failed to agree personal terms Riera has tried to repair the damage done by his comments on the eve of the important Europa League last-16 second leg against Lille last month.
"Negotiations with Spartak Moscow are stalled...my intention is to decide my future in the summer,'' Riera told Marca. "I want to continue my career at Liverpool because it is one of the best clubs in the world.
"The feeling is spectacular, we have a great stadium and I feel very good at Liverpool. I speak with Fernando Torres and (Jose) Reina and agree on the greatness of Liverpool.''
Such apparent contrition is unlikely to convince Benitez to welcome him back into the fold. The Reds boss has not forgiven Riera, worried about his World Cup chances, for so publicly trying to manufacture a move at a crucial time of the season by misrepresenting his relationship with him.

It's so funny...why we don't taaaalk anymoooore,
Used to think that life was sweet
Used to think we were so complete
I can't believe you'd throw it away
Used to feel we had it made
Used to feel we could sail away
Can you imagine how I feel today
Well, it seems a long time ago
You were the lonely one
Now it comes to letting go
You are the only one
Do you know what you've done
It's so funny
How we don't talk anymore
It's so funny
Why we don't talk anymore
But I ain't losing sleep
And I ain't counting sheep
It's so funny
How we don't talk anymore
Oooooooh, we don't talk
Well, it really doesn't matter to me
I guess you're leaving was meant to be
It's down to you now
You wanna be free
Well I hope you know which way to go
You're on your own again
Don't come crying to me
When you're the lonely one
Remember what you've done
It's so funny
How we don't talk anymore
It's so funny
Why we don't talk anymore
But I ain't losing sleep
And I ain't counting sheeeeep
No, no, no
It's so funny how we don't talk anymore
Oooooooh, we don't talk
Whoooooo, we don't talk
But I ain't no, losing sleep
No, I ain't counting sheeeeep
No, no, no
It's so funny how we don't talk

Liverpool outcast Albert Riera only wanted Russia move for the money, blasts Spartak Moscow boss Valery Karpin

Spartak Moscow boss Valery Karpin has hit out Albert Riera and firmly ruled out signing the Liverpool winger before the Russian transfer window closes on Thursday.
Spartak were in talks to take the Spain international on loan with a view to a £5million move in the summer after Riera angered Anfield boss Rafa Benitez by branding his club a 'sinking ship'.

Divide: Riera angered his Liverpool boss Benitez
But the move foundered over personal terms, despite the 27-year-old being desperate to secure regular football in the run-up to the World Cup.

Flashback: Karpin shackles Zinedine Zidane (front) at the 2002 World Cup
'I can tell you why the transfer didn't happen,' former Russia midfielder Karpin told Russian website Championat. 'I understand that the player wanted to have some match practice before the World Cup.
'In this situation, I would have even agreed to play free of charge.
'But Riera wanted to go to Spartak in order to hit the jackpot. We made him understood that this wouldn't happen with us.
'I can say that there will be no aquisitions before the transfer window closes.'
Since talks broke down, Riera has tried to make amends with Benitez, but he has not played for Liverpool for almost a month.
Spartak will consider a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's and could offer Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa in part exchange.Last edited by dww; 07-04-10, 07:05 PM."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
