    Torres to see Knee Specialist

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is to visit a specialist to assess his knee injury.

The Reds top scorer was forced to miss the goalless Premier League draw with Fulham because of the problem.

It is a worrying development for the Reds, who had hoped the Spain international's discomfort was not serious.

Torres, 26, was sidelined for a month after a knee operation in January.

Manager Rafael Benitez said: "He has a problem with his knee and has gone to see a specialist. We are waiting for news.

"We don't know really, it depends on the specialists.

"He had a problem before and we were trying to protect him."

Benitez attracted howls of derision when he controversially substituted Torres with 25 minutes remaining at Birmingham last week with the score 1-1.

But the manager insisted the player was tired and needed ice treatment on his knee.

Torres recovered sufficiently to play, and score twice, in Thursday's Europa League quarter-final win over Benfica but again left the field early.

Liverpool are next in action when they face West Ham at Anfield a week on Monday.

They then face Torres' former club Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final three days later.

Hopefully as a precaution and not anything ligament related.

Well that's not going to happen...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The cynical side of me is saying Fernando has gave up on us, and wants to be 100% fit for the world cup..

We should never be in the position where our season depends so much on one player...........we desperately need a statement from Nando stating he is is staying with us, no matter what. Much like Pepe has done.

But then again, we shouldn't be in such a position where we need to be so dependant on one player.......but we are.

Rafa - please go, AND GO NOW !!

I desperately pray that will happen.........

I will be shocked if he is still here come next August.

He would be a mug to stay, we offer next to nothing in terms of ambition. Its going to take something special to break back into the top 4, and we are just about out of special. Gerrard seems to have lost it, Cant erally see Mascherano and Reina hanging around if other top players leave, and we wont replace them with top quality unless we get a Champions League place, or major investment
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

So what? We become a mid table team, does that mean your leaving too?

I said he'd come off the bench in the 62nd min but I also tipped we'd be three up by then

A new manager with a better mentality will fix all our problems. We still have that strong core of players and under new leadership and guidance we would get easily 3rd next season with a fully fit Nando or not.

I'm coming round to the idea that selling Torres would be a positive move for the club. He's undoubtedly the best player we have and we are fortunate to have someone with such ability, but he's injury prone and we could buy three or four quality players to replace him. If Rafa goes (and I'm now convinced he will) then the new manager will want new players to work with. With no money available for transfers then selling Torres is probably the best option to bolster the team and get us competing with the big four.

I'm not sure I'd ever class having to sell your best player, who is a genuine world class striker, a "positive". However I kind of agree with the rest of your points. This doesn't mean that I want it to happen mind, ideally we'll get something sorted with the ownership which means that we don't even have to consider this kind of sacrifice. But I won't hold my breath on that one.
