The world cup couldn't have come at a worse time for us, not only extra games for our injured players, but big games where they'll give their all.

Also they'll get back late...and miss part of the pre-season probably.

      I should have elaborated, sorry

I think the main point is that yes, players probably can play 3 games in 8 days, but they can't play that amount of games over the course of a season at the same pace and level - it's impossible. Not to mention the inherent risk of injury that comes with tiredness.

We all know Rafa's methods are very scientific in this sense and he bases his decisions on detailed information from his medical staff. It just seems to me that as fans we tend to have a short-termist view in terms of fitness and injuries, and we're comparing our opinions to Rafa and his teams who (I would imagine) plan and think over the course of a season, if not longer

You are right, but although we seem to take this cautious approach, we end up having more players injured than teams that put their players at risk week in week out. Strange.

I think it can just come down to luck sometimes, don't you? Look at Fulham or Birmingham. Saying that though, they still have blips of bad form. I think to be at the top level though, you do have to rotate a medium to large squad of high quality in order to succeed

If he's injured he's injured, can't do anything about it.
It will be a massive blow but you can't fix a specialists report with MRI scans etc...

Torres gets kicked to **** every single game he play, he is the least protected striker in the PL
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

He probably could but he might not look so kindly on us when weighing up his future if he misses the world cup.

Anyway as much as I'd like the whole squad to take a month off, Torres has had plenty of feet-up time this season already so I don't think he'd come back burnt out, it's just the injury thing that's a worry.

After missing Sunday's clash with Fulham with a knee injury, Liverpool Football Club have today released the following statement.

"Fernando Torres was examined by a knee specialist this afternoon in Spain. He received treatment and will continue to do so over the next few days, with the injury being reassessed later this week."

Torres received some treatment yesterday but the specialist failed to discover the extent of his injury.
