More Pellegrini speculation now with added Lippi

Speculation is mounting that Manuel Pellegrini will be appointed Liverpool's next manager after he held talks with Kenny Dalglish in a London hotel.

Odds on the former Real Madrid coach, who was sacked in May after failing to prise the La Liga crown from rivals Barcelona, taking charge at Anfield have fallen dramatically after the pair were spotted in discussions at the Crowne Plaza near Heathrow Airport.

Pellegrini's agent denied claims that the 56-year-old was in the capital or that he has held talks with Reds managing director Christan Purslow but bookmakers have slashed his price from 90/1 to 4/1, but Dalglish and Fulham manager Roy Hodgson still remain the firm favourites for the role.

Meanwhile reports in Italy also claim that Marcello Lippi has snubbed an offer of £4.2million per season to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad Jeddah in the hope of being sounded out by Liverpool.

The former Juventus manager, 62, is planning to step down from international duty when Italy return from this summer's World Cup and is understood to be hoping he will be considered in the Anfield board's shortlist.

Dalglish is still keen to be offered the job but the board are believed to favour Hodgson, who is in South Africa acting as a pundit for the BBC.

But Hodgson, 62, has insisted he is happy at Craven Cottage despite increasing talk of an approach to Fulham for his services.

He said: "I'm Fulham manager. I'm perfectly happy at Fulham.

"To be honest, there's a lot of speculation but I can't enlighten you."

Probobly more bull**** but at least some managers with a bit more clout are being mentioned.
    In Klopp we trust.

Indeed - like the ones clamouring for Dalglish as manager, based on the fact that he was a former great player and knows the club. It mirrors exactly Newcastle and Keegan

Look, just because Newcastle have gone down this road and failed doesn't mean that the same would happen to us if Dalglish were to be appointed by Liverpool. Barcelona haven't done too badly with Guardiola have they?

The point is, each manager should be judged on their own merits. This whole situation has got **** all to do with Newcastle

so taking feelings and romance out of it what are the merits of a man who has not managed for 15 years and is a contemporary of george graham.

The king is the best player we ever had and did a good or great job as manager of us. However he did leave us with an ageing squad. Though i would say the pressure at the end would take their toll on anyone and we should have allowed him to have that break and come back. No one is saying he would much the job up however being objective you wouldnt give him the job.

Ok, well to stick with the Guardiola example - there you have someone who had never managed before he took the Barca job. If you were being objective he would never have been given the job.

There are other factors involved when it comes to choosing a manager. The merits of the man - first and foremost his relationship with the fans. After that, we know that he has the best interests of the club at heart. We know he likes his teams to play attractive football. He has passion, and he has the respect of the players.

While he has not managed for a long time, he has been involved closely with Benitez over the past 12 months, and it's possible that his appointment wouldn't see a complete (unneccessary) dismantling of the clubs staff - particularly the youth team staff.

Don't get me wrong - I think there are better candidates out there (Van Gaal, Pellegrini, Lippi). The point of my argument is that it is wrong to compare us with Newcastle.

If there's a comparison with Newcastle then there's a comparison with Barcelona. It's lazy and sensationalist

its certainly not sensationalist. Looking back looking at past heroes thinking thats what we need.

Pep was youth coach wasnt he so they promoted from within. A bit like the bootroom. This isnt why people want Kenny though is it.

If the reports of Pellegrini's interest in managing us and Lippi's desire to be sounded out are true, then it shows what a desirable club Liverpool is and what immense pulling power we still have as a club that two top class managers want to manage us, despite the circus and the shower of cunts we have in the boardroom.

i think theres a lot going on behind closed doors and theres a saga going to be played out before we have a new manager.

If true, it's certainly cause for optimism. Something as rare as hen's teeth at the moment.
