Welcome to LFC Roy Hodgson (Officially Confirmed)

TEAMtalk's Dave Tindall, a Liverpool fan of 35 years, believes Roy Hodgson is the right man for the job given the club's current circumstances.
One of the strengths of Liverpool FC down the years has been appointing good managers and giving them a chance.
To some clubs - the unsuccessful ones - 12 different managers in the last 12 years isn't unusual. But, as for Liverpool, Roy Hodgson will become just the 12th manager to take the Anfield hot-seat since World War 2.
And, like the vast majority of that dozen, Hodgson appears to be the best man available given the current circumstances.
Ah, yes, the 'current circumstances'. Let's be honest they're not great. A limited transfer kitty, no sign of a new stadium, huge debt and a season just gone which saw us finish seventh in the league (for the record we've never finished worse than eighth since getting promoted to the top flight in 1962 - a record of consistency that no-one can touch and some ammunition for future 'best in history' arguments!).
And then there is the doomsday scenario of Steven Gerard, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano all departing before Roy gets to know them.
However, Liverpool have rebuilt in the past and will do so again - to do that you need a solid manager with a strong CV and a commitment to the club.
Hodgson would appear to be that man.
He's done a superb job at Fulham, has strong European credentials - always high on the agenda for a Liverpool boss - and, at a time when there's not much of it about, has a welcome touch of class and dignity. Did we really want Jose Mourinho preening and prancing around Anfield for one season before putting us back to square one by quitting to manage Portugal when the Yanks wouldn't give him any money?
Hodgson also represents a reaction to the previous manager.
Former Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa once said that such was Rafa's controlling of the Reds players from the touchline it felt as if he was being directed around by a joystick.
Today, ex-Red Danny Murphy (touting for a return maybe?) spoke of Hodgson "giving players responsibility" and that could act like a breath of fresh air to Liverpool's players, who appeared to have had the life sucked out of them in what proved Rafa's final season.
Whether he can attract the big names is something of a moot point - Liverpool can't afford them anyway - but there is still plenty of talent in this Liverpool squad and Hodgson has the man-management skills and experience to get the best out of them.
Time will tell but, in my view, this is a good day in the proud history of LFC.

Its the way he did it Craig with conviction rather than skirting around the subject...bottom line is I just dont like him doesnt mean Im not watching football goings on closely..where did that come fromOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostOn that basis, they could've chosen anyone involved in the football industry.
If you think doing what Hodgson did, and keeping confidential discussions out of the media is rare, then you're not watching football goings-on very closely.

Each to their own, but the point was that everyone involved in football lies, it's part of their job remit, some things have to be kept out of the media.Originally posted by Frenchie View PostIts the way he did it Craig with conviction rather than skirting around the subject...bottom line is I just dont like him doesnt mean Im not watching football goings on closely..where did that come from
Personally, i think Hodgson generally comes across as one of the more decent and genuine people in football. But as i said, each to their own. I think you're so unhappy at his appointment that you'll use anything, no matter how minor, to criticise him. As regards 'where did that come from', i think plenty of people would ask the same question of your attacks of Hodgson
I didnt say you not liking him means you're not watching football closely, i said that if you think people in football not telling the truth to the media is a rare thing, THEN you're possibly not watching football very closely. Because it happens all the time.

Hopefully, this means he really wants to do the best he can. Rather than just add the biggest club to his CV. He's old enough to appreciate the club, instead of seeing us as a stepping stone on his career.Originally posted by Reece View PostDo you have a message for the Liverpool supporters?
The message is thank-you for having me here. I'm really looking forward to working with your team and looking forward to getting your support, which I've seen so many times throughout the years. I said recently that this is one of those clubs where your motto 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is really lived by the fans. It's a club where you feel you're not alone. I shall need lots of help and lots of support and I sincerely hope you make sure I never walk alone. That would be my message. Help me to do a good job
