He is also no way near as good as Mascherano and would be a huge step down in quality.

Of course he's not as good as Mascherano. Not even Scott Parkers mum would dispute that. The point is, who would be a realistic signing who could do a job for us in that position. Parker ticks a lot of boxes.

As a pure DM he would be a big step down. I guess it all comes down to if we are looking for a pure DM or someone who can be forward thinking also, as Parker can.

Plus of course, there is a major difference in value.

And if Mascherano does leave, as is looking likely - we will need a replacement. Any suggestions? I like the look of Melo at Juventus too, so there are other options. Any ideas?

Depends if we're are looking for completely defensively minded look alike or perhaps more forward thinking holding mid.

I can also remember last season or the season before when he was injured as a panelist on Sky for a champions league game and he was so complimentary about our fans and spoke about how the 2005 semi-final was the most intimidating game he'd ever played in.

Easy to say now but he's the only Chelsea play I respect as a footballer and a person (possibly Anelka aside).
