1st slight moan of the season for me, didn't see the point of Spearing last season and don't see the point of him this I'm afriad.
Kelly/Ayala/Ince/Amoo/Eccleston etc... need to play to gain experience and to see how they progress, Jay is that couple of years older (I think, can't be bothered to check) and while he got good reports from the loan spell last season I can't see him getting anywhere near the side especially now we've signed Shelvey and Cole who also play centre midfield.
He's gone past the 'promising youngster' stage for me and is now in the 'not good enough for us' stage. If he wasn't a scouser he'd be getting a lot more criticism (see Plessis)
Personally I hope he is being played so clubs can watch him and we sell, he's just clogging up a place in the reserves nowThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Roy didn't look too pleased after the first half - zero imagination going forward at all. Milan had no impact on the game at all. Amoo and Eccleston looked out of their depth. It did get better in the second half though, I thought. We got the ball down and played some decent football in spells.
Thought Kaiserslautern were quite dirty! Saw a few cynical fouls (especially the one on Amoo), and all that playing it back and forward between defenders - you're at home, you're 1-0 up and its a friggin friendly!
Shelvey looked neat and tidy in possession again. Ince looked very bright when he came on - electric pace on him!
As Craig_H said earlier, it's a bit of a concern that we don't have more senior players playing in these friendlies! 9 days training to prepare for Arsenal isn't nearly enough time.K ris90210

I have to agree on Spearing, but look at it from Roys view. He also needs to have a team capable of playing in Europe this coming week. And Spearing is probably as good as we've got available.Originally posted by The Birdman View Post1st slight moan of the season for me, didn't see the point of Spearing last season and don't see the point of him this I'm afriad.

I've said before on Jay, his lack of height has cost him.Forwards.......

He has from Monday onwards to prepare for the Arsenal game. He's been mentioning in all his interviews that the fixtures set for this past week were out of our depth due to the squad available and that the real business starts Monday.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostRoy didn't look too pleased after the first half - zero imagination going forward at all. Of course, we also have the Europa games to prepare for, but they'll all be training together and that's the main thing.Forwards.......

Some of the mistakes by Darby, Kelly and Ayala in this game show that young players (especially defenders) will make mistakes it's part of their development, and it's part of the reason I don't want us to have to rely on them as the only back ups in their positions, it's a similar to the case of Insua and the critisism of him last season. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yep very true actually, still I'd like to have seen Shelvey start ahead of himOriginally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostI have to agree on Spearing, but look at it from Roys view. Problem is for Darby is that he is 22 in October and he is not pushing on to first and doesn't look like he will be, I really don't think he will make it with us.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostSome of the mistakes by Darby, Kelly and Ayala in this game show that young players (especially defenders) will make mistakes it's part of their development, and it's part of the reason I don't want us to have to rely on them as the only back ups in their positions, it's a similar to the case of Insua and the critisism of him last season.

He needs to go with Spearing, don't know how that leaves us quota wise for the PL and Europa squad thingyOriginally posted by Mattshark View PostProblem is for Darby is that he is 22 in October and he is not pushing on to first and doesn't look like he will be, I really don't think he will make it with us.The King was back for a short while. He's not progressive fast enough for the player of his age and I also don't think he will ever really cut it. We should look to loan him again in hopes it will be his permanent move.Originally posted by The Birdman View Post1st slight moan of the season for me, didn't see the point of Spearing last season and don't see the point of him this I'm afriad.

One of the few bright spots in today's game. Very impressed with him thus far.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostRoy didn't look too pleased after the first half - zero imagination going forward at all. I also don't think he will ever be able to truly contend for the first team spot. I just don't see any desire, drive, push to make an impact and impress his manager and to me that is very disappointing. Young player like him should be leaving his heart and soul on the pitch and to me he is clearly failing there.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostProblem is for Darby is that he is 22 in October and he is not pushing on to first and doesn't look like he will be, I really don't think he will make it with us.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club
