couldnt give a shiny ****e about the loser league this year. i find it a bit embarrasing to be involved with and wouldn't mind if we got knocked out early . . . . . . which is why i would stick with the pre-season plan and play the youngsters - our focus should be sloey on the premier league and regaining top 4 - nowt else.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

no, but in 2001 i felt we were a UEFA cup team. in 2010 i feel we should be aiming a bit higher than that is all.Originally posted by Reece View PostIt's basically the Uefa Cup though, just rebranded. Were you embarrassed when we one that in 2001?

I think we need some experienced players to direct attacks and some threat on the bench. Starting the season with a loss to an unheralded team would be really depressing and the last thing we need before embarking on what could well be a very hard season.
Wenger always fields teams with a few experienced heads along with his young upstarts and we need to do the same. The problem is that we have few players with leadership character anyway and most of those went to the WC and I would like to see them rested. Perhaps now is the time for Aquilani to step up.
In fact it could be really good for him to have some responsibility. Although Roy hasn't seemed to make it a first choice in the friendlies I would like to see what a midfield triangle of Aquilani, Lucas and Shelvey could do. Those players at least have experience of competitive football.
I'd definitely want Torres and Gerrard or some of the first teamers on the bench."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

the first team experienced heads that did'nt play at the world cup - aqua / lucas / cava / soto ( he did play at WC though didnt he but **** it ) - mixed with youngsters and just treat it like a pre-season game.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

aye - there is also an arguement that then the uefa cup still had a bit of draw....for example we played roma and barcelona that year!!!Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postno, but in 2001 i felt we were a UEFA cup team. in 2010 i feel we should be aiming a bit higher than that is all.
Since it's turned into a random group stage it's become a bit of joke - i may be wrong as i didn't pay it much attention but i'm sure one year, recently, the group stages were bizarre and completley random to follow - ie, i'm sure there were some groups with more teams than other groups, and you didn't play each team twice, it was some crazy round robin, so you would play each team once, either home or away....i'm sure there was an issue with someone like celtic, getting drawn away to ac milan which was a vital game in the group, and then at home they had someone ****.i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Yeah fair point. But we're not, and as I mentioned previously in the thread we haven't won a trophy in over 4 years, which is something hard to accept as a Livepool fan no? I know I'll be happy if we win this trophy at the end of the season.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postno, but in 2001 i felt we were a UEFA cup team. in 2010 i feel we should be aiming a bit higher than that is all.
Obviously we need to aim higher, but there have been massive disruptions at the club for numerous reasons, so at the moment whilst we rebuild to get us back to where we belong (if there is such a place), we should take what we can in terms of silverware. In my opinion of course.

when i was still at school and since i supported an english club, my mates all pressed me into picking a scottish team too and as i had been going to hibs games for a while i decided to support them as well...........they have a chance to qualify for the europa league this year and if they get in i'd be delighted - but that also makes it a bit less special / important for me as an lfc fan as although i love the hibees, they are no where near lfc class and that to me is why i dont want to be in the europa league.Originally posted by PTP View Postaye - there is also an arguement that then the uefa cup still had a bit of draw....for example we played roma and barcelona that year!!!
