what value is a manager
I don't want to be too down beat with only two games gone - though we are already 5 points behind, but how can a guy with so much experience and who is meant to be good enough to manage LFC not understand the principles of football, was he not there for England v Germany.
Unless you have two dominating box to box midfielders and two true wingers you can't play 442 and be successful - yes our squad is poor, but forget that for a minute, how can you organise your team to play a system that you don't have the players for and please explain to me how our manager doesn't know that, is he not meant to be a footballing expert. So frustrating that our manager doesn't understand these simple things. I am worried this is going to be a Souness era. Lucas is not a ball winner, a good distributor and most definitely not a dominating box to box player. Kuyt and Janovich (who is better) are not true wingers, you just can't play 442 with that midfield, especially with the opposition playing 3 across the middle. We simply do not have the players to win matches playing 442 - how can our manager not see that or understand that during such a game - the players and system needed changing, was that not obvious. Any football fan pulled off the street would of managed the team selection and match plan better. If he wants to play 442 he better go out and sign two wingers and more dominating box to box midfielders very quickly. We lost to a good team I can accept that, it is hard to accept how our manager set-up the team and managed what he saw in front of him during the game - smells of incompetency or a man who simply does not have the basic grasp of football. I thought he was meant to be one of the best in the around at understanding the principles of the beautiful game. Did he simply get lucky with Fulham last year and is he simply stuck in the past.

Am i still using Mascherano?Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostAlright, we'll play a game, what's your first choice 11 without Gerrard and Torres?
Assuming everyone's fit:
Pepe
Johnson Carragher Agger Aurelio
Mascherano Poulsen
Kuyt Cole Jovanovic
Babel (or N'Gog)
That would never struggle to stay up.

I agree with your points, but, for Roys sake I am clinging to the hope that he second guessed himself as he doesn't know the team that well yet. The team that was leaked to start before Mascher pulled out was spot om IMO. Maybe the last minute change threw him a bit. Lets hope so anyway.Originally posted by suffering fan View PostI don't want to be too down beat with only two games gone - though we are already 5 points behind, but how can a guy with so much experience and who is meant to be good enough to manage LFC not understand the principles of football, was he not there for England v Germany.

Would stay up wouldnt be a top 4 side though i think it would stuggle against some of the mid table sides like brum etcOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostAm i still using Mascherano?

we are less than the sum of our parts at the moment.
as i said in the match thread when i stop and think of our players we should be a top 4 team but when i watch them we clearly arent.
maybe i am stuck in the prem two years ago?

That's a pretty good consensus, right? Probably good enough to stay up, even though it has an absolutely horrible attack, might be the worst in the league.
Now let's try a little trick.
Is that side better than this one?
Harper
Perch Taylor Coloccini Enrique
Routledge Gerrard Barton Gutierrez
Carrol Torres
Now tell me, is the Liverpool team without Torres and Gerrard better than a promoted side with Gerrard and Torres? If they're not, what does it say about the rest of our players?Last edited by JohnDoe; 23-08-10, 11:13 PM.

Not just City mate. United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have a strong bench week in, week out.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostThe other annoying thing about tonight...
Adam Johnson, Barry, Milner, Silva. All players who we could have brought in if we weren't only allowed to sell players and bring in freebies.
Yanks Out.
We're ****ing struggling without major investment.

why oh why do people think he had only one good season at Fulham when it was the season before where they actually qualified for europe and he managed to keep them up the season before that. So if you're going to doubt the man and knock him down, at least know your facts.Originally posted by suffering fan View PostDid he simply get lucky with Fulham last year and is he simply stuck in the past.
Its an easy one to throw at him about old school because he's 63. Don't Spurs play 442? Yes they have the players for it and Roy has probably realised some of our players aren't good enough to play it going forward, but its a learning process for everyone. We could easily have scored a couple and with better marking and without a clumsy tackle in the area we wouldn't have conceded three either. I can't remember Reina having many saves to make.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

I think it'd finish around the top 6. In years gone by, top four too but prob not now. It wouldnt be a million miles off though.Originally posted by Marsh View PostWould stay up wouldnt be a top 4 side though i think it would stuggle against some of the mid table sides like brum etc

its not ****ing rocket surgery is it
think many posted on here as soon as we saw the line up. Niave at best, Craig's right Rafa would never have got dicked in that game, but then suppose he wouldnt have gone for win either!!
Although Writing off Chelsea as think they could piss it this year so as i said 2 games gone, 2 hard games played and only 3pts behind 2nd. Amazing that after 2 games only 1 team has a 100% record thats nuts_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!
