Did anyone notice just how far forward Yaya Toure was getting last night, he was playing nearly as a second striker behind Tevez at times. I always thought he played as a DM or CM, he seemed to be playing much further up the pitch then that.

Yep it was insane, he was the closest to Tevez for much of the night.Originally posted by Fernandinho View PostDid anyone notice just how far forward Yaya Toure was getting last night, he was playing nearly as a second striker behind Tevez at times. Mind you he did a good job of it, he is in absolute power house and is a decent passer, we should have done a straight swap of masch for him. Looks a better deal then we might end up with and he is 6 ft 4 inches so he gives us another option defending and attacking set pieces...96 Never Forgotten

Do you not rate Lucas then? You kept that quiet.Originally posted by danperkins View PostHave to say there's some fierce knee jerking going on, **** me.
It was an appalling performance one of/if not the worst i've seen from a LFC side in recent years. What was most apparent to me was we looked disjointed and lacked any sort of continuity. The Masch situation is a ****ing joke, yet another saga that has dragged on for way to long, and it is bound to effect the team, sure if Masch was in there instead of Lucas last night it would have been a different story as there would be far better cover for the defense and Stevie could have got forward more instead of being petrified to leave Lucas alone in the middle, which left a huge gaping hole between midfield and the forward line.
Lucas should never start in Liverpool's first 11. Kuyt IMO if good offer comes in we should sell. Johnson has been a horrific waste of money, he is not a defender end of, decent going forward to genuinely cannot defend to save his life and combined with Agger not being a LB and Skrtel being distinctly average, well got our asses handed to us, Milner and Johnson had a field day. Jovo was shocking, hopefully thats not what we can expect for him. I know Torres needs to be 100% fully fit to function (similiar to Rooney in that way) but without sounding over the top, he looked mediocre. No pace,no power,no presence,no fight, no heart, looks like a man shot of confidence and passion, we really need him.
I just can't see us playing that bad again, it was plain embarrassing if i'm honest but i'm not gonna knee jerk and say we're bolloxed or that Roy is ****e, its his first 2 league games against poxy opposition, he has had little or no money, our star buy Cole was suspended and added to that the Masch debacle and pulling out before the game. He will come good just needs time and to have players that want to be at the club and play for LFC but yes IMO Roy showed a complete lack of urgency, much similar to what Rafa used to do. Picking Lucas was a mistake although i think we all know that Masch would have started instead and Poulsen needs time to adjust so unfortunately Lucas was our only option, and a horrific one at that.
I have no doubts Roy will turn it around, i am sick to ****ing death of all of our off the field battles, i long for the day when we can just concentrate 100% on the game of football instead of all this drama, backstabbing and politics.
P.S. Said recently Masch was a cunt, few disagreed, think its safe to say that statement was very true, he literally can **** off.Modifying post.

thinking about the match over the last 12 hours or so i think its better for all of us to calm down and not panic over last nights result.
We were beaten comprehensively by city because they dominated us in midfield and we just got outnumbered. I actually dont think that hodgson got the tactics wrong because with mascherano ruling himself out he probably didnt have a choice.
Poulsen isnt fit and we dont have anyone else so he probably had to play ngog up front leaving us with 2 in midfield.
Unfortunately, city will get a massive boost from this and im certain they will push right on for fourth. I dont think we'll be far behind and come the end of the season we will be in the mix somewhere.
There is one week left until the end of the transfer window and there are still serious question marks over the squad including the futures of mascherano and kuyt.
If they both go, we will need to buy another central midfielder (but someone who can mix both defensive with offensive duties), another wide player, a left back and a centre forward.
I would like to see crouch, defour, a wide player (absolutely no idea who - nico kranjar maybe) and if we cant find someone decent for the left back then i would like us to keep martin kelly there.
In rafa's first season we had plenty of dodgy results so and he was still treated like a god, so lets give roy the same sort of patience and support because he's definitely going to need it. Supporters singing for the former manager during a game isnt going to help.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Now I've calmed down a little, it does look like Roy's hand was forced somewhat. Poulsen and Aurelio would have started if fit and we'd have seen a different game
That said, that team was suicide, but it doesn't like there were many alternativesI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

I don't for a second believe that we couldn't have played different tactics. For a start if we are going to play a 4-4-2 it makes a lot more sense to put Kuyt as the second striker. I'm sure we could have played Maxi on the right. We had plenty of players capable of making us transition to a simple variation of 4-2-3-1 accounting for the loss of Mascherno and Cole.
I accept that given that we don't have great strength in midfield, if Poulsen isn't fully fit, then Gerrard in CM might have been necessary but a 3 line formation with two tactically similar forwards, no creative lynch pin or natural width was not.
When Roy moved away from his default 4-4-2 with "inside out" wingers at Fulham he often struggled. His lack of flexibility and reliance on set, drilled manoeuvres seems to me to be a considerable problem now he has made the step up to a team expected to win most games. I hope that he imposes at least his plan A on the squad soon and that I'm proved wrong but at the minute he looks a bit out of his depth.Last edited by dww; 24-08-10, 03:04 PM."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
