I know man......I think the fact there's any debate shows he's got two good feet. Just had a quick Google and found an LFC thread on some random forum and it had a Portuguese fan explaining what he's all about. Said he's left footed.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Cool so he's a lefty but good with his right. Excellent

hate to nitpick here but i've just seen the first 20 minutes of the portugal match, and although i've not seen the goal yet, meireles seems to favor his right foot pretty strongly.

in fact the 2nd cypriot goal seems to be laid on by him because he tries to play the ball with his right foot even though it was coming to his left

It's come to my attention that Enzo Maresca is a free agent, after cancelling his contract with Olympiakos around a week ago. Now, if we wanted that kind of player I'd have much preferred us to sign him on a free than splashing money on Meireles. An all round midfield with much better technical ability and a lot of heart too. As well as that Enzo has English football experience (alas in the First Division) and speaks English. And if we're talking goals from midfield you're hardly going to find a better ball striker than him from a technical and power point of view. As well as that he's pretty handy on set pieces.

I know I'm speculating here but that's more the kind of signing I'd have warmed up to if we're signing players in that mould. For me a much better player and a better price, yes he's a few years older but he's far from finished.

We could still sign him though.

We should, but we won't. He'll probably end up at some midtable/EUFA Cup Italian team. He was probably the best midfielder in La Liga in 05/06, too bad minor injuries/falling out of favour didn't let him play as much as he should have to the level he should have - but whenever he played for Sevilla he was class.

I'd take him and offload Lucas in January.

It appears it was his decision to quit Olympiakos. He is not even motivated to play for any club at the present time. It is not like we'd sign him but imo it'd be foolish to contemplate signing someone who clearly is not psychologically ready to compete..

Depends on the reasons he wasn't competing. If he has lost the love of football for a while then we would be foolish. If it is the Greek league that isn't motivating him enough then that's a different matter.

For example, there are many lazy players in the Sunday League who play for their local pubs or whatever, but give them a chance to play for the team they support and they'd be well fired up!
                          Forwards.......

Too many ifs. Risk is just too high.

It'd be better to have him re-enter the football arena in Serie A for example and see if he can still cut it and then decide if he is good enough to be considered as a future signing.

Not really as then he'd cost money to buy as opposed to being a free agent when we are a player short in midfield now IMO.

I'd sign him now on a years deal.

I wouldn't. He is a pure gamble (not mentally and probably physically ready, never played in PL etc.) and we already have too many free agents.
