I think a lot of people have seen Gareth Bale go from a ****e left back into a very good left winger and think we can do the same with Johnson.

Yep, that's my thought too. Bale has a better cross on him though, and is technically better. Johnson probably does him for pace.

I have not done one post where I have not made it perfectly clear that I think we should see Gerrard in DM alongside one of Poulsen or Lucas.

What I have said is that I think away to Man Utd, at this stage of Meireles settling in period, a pairing of him and Gerrard would not be ideal.

Mate, my point was (as i said already):

You said you think Meireles wouldnt offer enough protection to the back four if he played alongside one of Poulsen or Lucas, because he goes forward too much.

You then said you'd consequently prefer to see Gerrard playing at DM alongside one of Lucas or Poulsen, instead of Meireles.

But Gerrard goes forward too, so the effect would be the same.

So why would you not play Meireles at DM due to the idea that he'd go forward and leave the back four exposed, but play gerrard there when he does exactly the same?

My own opinion is that this is the kind of game where we need the majority of the team to do a defensive job for us, to help us nullify their threat and to control the game. I think you have 6 players doing that job and the other 4 outfield players are there to win you the game - so ideally, you want each one of those to be a top attacking player, who can produce something that can win the game for you. Hence, i would have Gerrard as one of those attacking 4 along with Nando, Joe Cole and normally, Kuyt, but in this case, i guess it has to be Babel - over Maxi, because Babel has the pace, power and shooting ability to possibly make things happen or score a goal - maxi doesnt really have anything in that respect.
