Thats what Everton fans like to say/think. I will say instead of bashing our bitter blue and white ****e rivals that they did have a good side. Not as good as LFC at the time though. But yes we would have had 7 or 8 by now i reckon.

They did have a strong team back then. They shouldn't blame us though, they should blame Thatcher.
      We come not to play.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTfpn_xsKhE"]YouTube - Sons Of Shankly[/ame] To Fernandinho this is a video you really should watch. You want emotion, pride, dispair and joy you have got it all in one in this video. My only criticism of this video is that it's not long enough

That video is a rallying cry to all LFC fans. Sunday we are at our deadliest rival, show that video to Carra, Gerrard and the rest! Stand tall, stand proud, sing loud. Though our away support is ****ing fantastic in all fairness. Cant wait for the game later on today, shall sing me heart out! Wish the game was at 5am! im pumped up to **** for this game! i cant sleep

John Barnes was a true footballing genius, possibly the most talented player ever to pull on an England shirt. Were it not for the European ban, and the injuries he had in the early 90's, he would probably be spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Dalglish as one of our greatest ever. That partnership between him and Beardsley was a thing of pure beauty, the football they played was simply exhilarating.

As for Aldridge, well he was a wonderful goalscorer (although frankly, with the service he was getting he couldn't miss a lot of the time). He'll always be in the shadow of Rushie though, he wasn't really around and at the peak of his powers for long enough to rival him... and then along came another player to eclipse him somewhat, our favourite son, Robbie, who in his first 4 seasons especially was the most natural goalscorer I've ever seen, arguably better than Rush even

Aldridge will always be remembered fondly though, top guy and a true red

Oh god, I remember that, you're right, probably the best own goal ever ... and a fine example of why the back pass rule was changed!

I remember Fernandinho asking about the Brazilian Ronaldo, so i thought i'd post this on Barnes.

He was truly a genius who could do everything. Watch the compilation and you'll see what i mean - left foot, right foot, even headers, freekicks, long range, short range - whatever, he did it all. And he actually WAS left footed, but look how brilliant he is with his right. Incredible stuff.

He'd be the world's best player now if he was playing at his peak - Youtube compilations are usually misleading because they just plonk together a player's best bits and ignore the fact that they werent the 'norm' - but Barnes literally did things like this almost on a weekly basis. Pure genius and highly underrated on the world stage. Best player in Europe for a period while at his peak, IMO.

                    Enjoy....

Yes the legend that is John Barnes, I was fortunate to have seen him play so many times the one that I can still remember is the goal against QPR, first home game of that season I think, I was on the kop that day and the guy was playing on a different planet. A true gent of a player, never dived a real team player and an absolute joy to watch. He seemed to get a bit of stick from the media due to his England performances, but when wearing the red shirt he was unplayable. Oh to have one now but to be honest these sort of players rarely come along, we've been lucky to have had such players.

John Barnes was my absolute hero as a kid. You compare him to what is about at the moment and the market values of them and at his peak, he would easily be a £50m player. He was as easy on the ball, as skilful and able to beat players as someone like Luis Figo, but was more of a physical presence and goal scorer as well. What a player! Dalglish was before my time really, so Barnes was always number one for me.

Glad you all mentioned the last true number seven for us as well...

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present the legendary Peter Beardsley.

One of the greatest travesties and sins committed in the name of terrible decisions, was Souness dumping him and having Dean Saunders take the number seven over.

Barnes is the reason I support Liverpool. Used to watch, in silence, completely entranced by him.

'89 - I watched at home on TV, my brother and his mate (Gooners) were at the match. On top of the heartbreaking result, I had to sit while my bro and mate sang Arse and anti LFC songs at me for hours when they got home. I held onto that anger, readers.

Heysel - I was on a family holiday in Spain and was allowed to go and watch in the hotel bar. Sat next to a Belgian, he kept repeating "this isn't football, this shouldn't happen" as I sat there feeling sick to my stomach. Didn't give a **** about the match and was actually surprised it went ahead. Platini's penalty was a final kick in the balls that night, though.

You see Barnes kicking round Liverpool now and again, and every time I have seen him, he's been wearing an ankle length leather coat, black clothes, shades and a mobile constantly stuck to the side of his head. Maybe he thinks he's Morpheus nowadays.

Dalglish made some amazing signings in 1987:

£1.9m for Beardsley (breaking the British transfer record)
£900,000 for Barnes (bargain of the decade, one of best ever Reds)
£800,000 for Houghton (excellent team player)
to add to £750,000 paid for Aldridge earlier that year.

Maradona was best player in the world at the time but no LFC fan would've swapped him for Barnes........ says it all really.
