FC Utrecht Build up this Thursday away

With all the doom and gloom that is LFC at the moment, I thought I'd rather try to pick who we'll play against Utrecht this week in the mighty Europa League.

I think Konchesky is a doubt and Fabio probably still is too. That would leave Agger or Kelly to slot in there I think ? Or Darby ?

Fernando Torres could play against Utrecht.

Torres has yet to play in a Europa League game this season but Roy Hodgson has revealed he is considering playing the striker on Thursday.

"It's on my mind to play Torres, Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt on Thursday. I think they're knitting together well," said the boss.

"I thought Torres was much, much different (against Sunderland) to the one in the first couple of games.

"People wanted to see his best the moment he stepped back on to the field after the World Cup, but I said he needed games, he needed time.

"He was unlucky not to score one of the goals of the month, with that magnificent control and volley that was inaccurately ruled out for offside.

"It was only Meireles' second start and there was another start for Joe Cole. There are moments giving me satisfaction but I know it's a big job and I can't just wave a magic wand and Liverpool will suddenly dominate English football again. But there were a lot of pleasing factors."

We need to 'gel' get our confidence back.

We need to understand what the manager wants from us and at least try to attempt to play using 4-4-2 as long as he's here.

What's the odds on Ricky van Wolfswinkel being the first scorer? I could fancy a flutter.

I think we should use this game to experiment, use some players that Roy has considered first team as well as some others, i.e. Lucas. As well as the likes of Kelly to give him some more valuable experience. Overall though, I think we'll notch up another win against mediocre opposition but it won't really serve us much good unless Roy is using these opportunities to learn.

I wouldnt be remotely surprised if Roy picks a first-choice side for this game. He knows the knives are out and he's already under the kind of pressure that means he's desperate for a win.

I'd go strong with this one, if we can get a win here we should be fine in the group resting people for the other 4 games, plus we need a boost.

Problem is, our "strongest" team has no guarantee of a result in these type of games anymore.

Would be great if we could push on and get a draw out of this, we have to respect them as they are sitting 3pts off relgation in the much revered eredivisie and although they lost against alkamaar at the weekend, they have just beat the mighty vvvvvvvvvenlo 3-2 to keep them in the bottom 3.

Lets then go into the weekend on a high and if we can grab another draw against an attack minded Blackpool it would be another great week for Hodgson and push us closer to that midtable mediocrity we are striving for.

Totally agree on what we should be playing though, possibly put Kelly in at LB and swap Agger for Skrtel

Need to put out a strong team and give a convincing performance, Torres needs games and goals. I'd rather start with Torres, try get a goal/lead and then if we are winning take him, more so than putting him on in dying minutes out of desperation to get a result. Kelly or Johnson LB sounds good to me, to be honest if we had more options at RB i'd bench Johnson he has been defensively putrid so far this season and for most of his Liverpool career, the fact he doesn't do much going forward these days is making people focus more on him defensively. Agger in for Skrtel too for me.
