Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright Open To The Idea Of Ground Sharing With Liverpool

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright remains open to the prospect of sharing a stadium with rivals Liverpool, after reading that the Anfield club were warming to the idea.

Both clubs have had trouble with regard to moving to a new stadium for various reasons, and ground sharing has been touted as a potentially beneficial move in some quarters.

Kenwright's comments comes in the light of Reds legend Kenny Dalglish's recent view that while the situation may no be ideal, ground sharing is a option that is "worth looking at" for the greater good of both clubs.

"In the past Liverpool have always been opposed so I am intrigued about what Kenny Dalglish has had to say about ground sharing,'' the Toffees chairman told ESPNsoccernet.

"It is more than likely we would sit down and have a descent discussion about ground sharing in Stanley Park with Liverpool."

Dalglish had written in the Mail on Sunday: "It's probably true that more people are becoming sympathetic to a ground-share with Everton if a third party came forward able to build it, with the two clubs renting.

"'Again, it is not the ideal situation: that would be to keep the two clubs in two separate stadiums with vibrant atmospheres of their own.

"But this is not an ideal time for either club and I'm sure they would sit down and have a conversation with each other about it if there was a feeling it would be beneficial. It's not anyone's personal views that is important - it is about what is best thing for the club.

''I don't know if it will ever happen but maybe you need a few people to sit down and say that, although it's not what they want in a perfect world, it's worth looking at.

''Whoever is in a position of responsibility at Liverpool and Everton are only custodians for the next generation of supporter. They owe it to the fans to look at every possibility to help their respective clubs."

Unless we get someone in with real financial clout, we're never going to have a stadium. That is clear to me and it seems Everton aren't going to be in a situation where they can build one themselves. I think it's a real possibility by the way things are going.

I'd hate it though, but it doesn't seem anyone can prevent it if King Kenny of all people is trying to make sense of it.

I tend to think that Groundshare is now practically inevitable, given the costs to build a suitable stadium.

Liverpool would want to have something which could hold 60K plus. Everton need something to hold 40K +.

If we say a stadium costs upwards of 350m to build then surely with the potential of halving those costs it would be a no brainer.

I know there is an obvious reluctance to do this from the supporters who would feel they didn't have their own "manor", but economically it does seem to make sense.

A think that a stadium could be built that still maintains the character and sprit of both teams with a Liverpool end and an Everton End.

It would halve the number of football stadia in the city to just one. Pathetic for a city like Liverpool that there would be just one football stadium in the entire place. There's not even a non league ground within the city boundaries at the moment.

On the back of Dalglish's crap article in the mail the other day. You have wonder if there are things going on in the background regarding groundshare.

I will mourn the death of this club the day we go into a groundshare. Until we get new owners we should not even be thinking about the new ground, let alone discussing it.

how would everton plan to fill a 60'000 seater stadium?? and how would we fill it the way things are going either?? most important thing now is get the yanks out and then worry about a stadium.

Imagine you had an extra an extra 150m to spend on players because you had entered into a Ground Share agreement.

                          Wouldnt that be welcome?

I think a great football stadium up North could be just what the City needs and remember how many families in Liverpool are divided by there football support?
Liverpool and Everton dont "hate" each other I would describe it as a healthy rivalry.
By sharing a stadium it would only increase that intense rivalry.

                          half my family are toffees.

Its economic sense and most people once they get over the "shock of the new" will be just fine.
