You cant (or shouldnt) appoint a manager on the basis of a cup run only. You can get lucky with a cup run. And everyone accepted Fulham were lucky in several of the games on the way to the final

Lets just recap the real evidence regarding Hodgson

Roy Hodgson has not won away from home in his last 22 Premier League matches as a coach with Liverpool and Fulham.
This is their poorest start to a top-flight campaign since 1953/54 (based on three points for a win).

After 8 games last season our form was as follows:-

      P W D L F A Pts
      8 5 0 3 23 9 15

We would be 3rd in the league with that points total today

last year only 1 of the bottom 3 at this stage stayed up

He's done a **** job. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have changed managers in the summer. We just picked the wrong manager. That's all.

What has he got to do with it? I asked a simple question.

Besides, i'm not defending Hodgson, I am defending the appointment of a new manager in the summer.

We should only have sacked Rafa if we had someone better lined up

                Hodgson is massively overrated

So overrated that one of the selection panel asked to be excused from the appointment process and to be considered for the position himself

Well he managed to get Ipswich into the Champions League but like Hodgson hes not a good manager either

I have absolutely no problems with sacking Rafa provided you were getting as good or better in

Anything less is extremely foolish imo

I believe the board thought it was possible that a different manager could get more out of the squad. That's all.

The situation is unacceptable but a few things:
We are likley to turn the criticism into a self fulfulling prophecy if we don't get behind the team - and yes the manager whilst he remains
NESV will be aware that their investment is at risk so will be just as anxious as fans to sort the issue out if it doesn't improve quickly
Some people see Hodgson as Purslow's appointee and due to their unreasonable attitudes towards Purslow will never acept Hodgson.

Hodgson took a while to get going at Fulham, but he then improved them as a team season by season. I have no idea whether he will succeed at Liverpool and the signs are not good, but we are damaging our own team by piling on the pressure so soon. Step back, rejoice and watch us get relegated.
                        Erm, no thanks!

We are not going to agree on Rafa so let me put this a different way so it doesn't come across as a slight on Rafa. For me it's less about him than the decision making process in football clubs.

I am in a position to make a decision to stay in a average paying job where I think I am going nowhere, I can do one of two things. I can wait around, hope things change by themselves and I get promoted. There is another job available that I could take a chance on knowing it will either result in me being in a better position or a worse position.

They did the latter, and ended up in a worse position. It was a calculated risk, but in my opinion they were better to do something than nothing.

Now, they have a much easier decision.

We will always get behind the team, but I think it's obvious now the gamble failed.

I was annoyed that Kenny was apparently the one who ruled out Pellegrini. He was my choice of those available.
