    David and Goliath?

We all know who the villain of the piece was in that story.
    One tit for another.

One could argue that if you have more of the ball in the opponents third that you're actually more likely to bee hurt by the opposition (on the counter attack) than if they are dominating possession in the middle third.

Right, here we go. I've found a match report from the match we lost against Chelsea last season. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...em/8283710.stm

Our possession is higher than theirs: 48-52. We lost 2-0. What the bloody hell does that possession stat matter? When you're 2-0 up. It's perfectly rational to sit back and play on the counter. As such, the possession stats will be skewed.

I would be very interested to know the possession stats broken into thirds for the time up until we were 2-0 up. I think you'd see that while both teams were utilising 'plan A', our possession would be fairly close to theirs.
After 42 mins, just before we score our second, the possession was 48-52, more possession for Chelsea then as well.

It would have been a difference if Lampard and Essien played. Then you would have understood his tactics.

Now he set it up Houllier style hoping that Torres would have a great day.

We do have a great starting XI and should be able to boss the game against every team in the league at home.
Jesus mate are you serious "The Blackburn game"?? The first half was an immense performance against one of, the best teams in the world. We got 2 starters injured/ill on the morning of the game, massive blow to an already fragile and sparse squad. Essien is outstanding as is Lampard but you can only beat the team that is put in front of you.

They still had out a side capable of beating most, we blitzed them in the first half, they literally didn't know what to do, their second half resurgence for twenty odd mins was a banker to happened from the champions and current league leaders being behind in a crucial game. We weathered it, Roy's tactics playing Kuyt up with Torres and then switching Kuyt on right later in the game for defensive stability was spot on.

Credit to Roy, credit where credit is due just as criticism where criticism is due.

He has done that at more or less every club. It is just the way he is. He clearly thinks that no one is allowed to speak up against him. He takes that as a personal insult.

He may get away with it at other clubs but not here. We Liverpool fans don't like being told to shut up and being told that we are more or less idiots.

As a manager you respect the fans from day one to the day you leave. If you don't then you can just **** off because we Liverpool fans will respect the manager if he respects us whatever the results on the pitch.

It wasn't as clear cut as us just choosing to retreat, we also faced a more attacking Chelsea line up and were forced back. And we were playing against a better team. We still the personnel for counter attacks. A sensible and ultimately successful approach against the league leaders imo. Rafa would have done the same

And abusing him at every opportunity doesn't do anyone any favors IMO regardless of how he ****ed up, its just embarrassing. And i never said good performances don't equate good results most of the time Craig, what i said was in the end the result is what counts, performances and possession come a distant second.

How did you access this stat?

Still, 48-52 makes it fairly even. Also, I'm (quite) sure very little of their possession occured within our defensive third at this point?

The thing is though a manager can disrespect the fans provided hes doing well on the pitch I remember Mourinho saying the Chelsea fans werent a patch on the LFC fans but nobody at Chelsea batted an eyelid because they were romping the league at the time and (if you believed every Chelsea fan) were on course to the the Champions League as well

Roys problem has been insulting the fans at the same time as things were going to **** on the pitch

Whether he would have faced as much vitriol if results had been better is hard to say but its clear that even with the improvement in results there is still a significant proportion of fans who want him gone

That is not only a football based opinion its also an emotional one, he just hasnt connected with the fans and some of that might not be his fault whilst some of it most definitely is his fault

Just out of interest, who has been doing this recently? It was way over the line a couple of weeks ago, but I've not seen anything in the past week (bar Frenchie calling him the Jowly one).

I'm glad its stopped as it wasn't very classy IMO.

You're missing the point though. "People do and say stupid **** under pressure" - that's just it though, the best managers DONT. This isnt random folk off the street we're talking about, these are highly paid managers and they're in the position because they should know what you can and cant say.
