The Houllier system is equally as easy to counter-act just look at seasons prior to Rafa's appointment

I prefer the Rafa method over our play being stretched always have, because thats the same method the LFC sides of the 70's & 80's employed we were renowned for playing short football in a compressed space

It worked then no reason it shouldnt work again the key is getting quality players in attacking positions so when you win possession they can utilise it

I wasn't suggesting that we go back to relying on counter attacking football - I think being adaptable is the best approach as being wholly reliant on one system has failed us so far.

If a team plays ****e but they win i.e. United what counts at the end of the day? The result, and in the end the outcome is the only thing that matters.

You don't always have to play well or keep possession to win games, obviously you can't do this all of the time, that would be silly to say but when all is said and done the result is the most important thing.

No you don't have to keep possession and play well all the time. The point is that we haven't dominated possession for the majority of the games with ROy in charge, which implies that he sets out his teams to sit deep and counter attack.

As for the alleged 'abuse' aimed at Roy, I haven't seen any lately, so I don't understand what you're saying. Criticism yes, but rightly so.

Depends doesn't it. Chelsea had more possession than us and we hurt them more than they hurt us.

One could argue that if you have more of the ball in the opponents third that you're actually more likely to bee hurt by the opposition (on the counter attack) than if they are dominating possession in the middle third.

Our possession is higher than theirs: 48-52. We lost 2-0. What the bloody hell does that possession stat matter? When you're 2-0 up. It's perfectly rational to sit back and play on the counter. As such, the possession stats will be skewed.

I would be very interested to know the possession stats broken into thirds for the time up until we were 2-0 up. I think you'd see that while both teams were utilising 'plan A', our possession would be fairly close to theirs.

Load of bollocks...the first half we had them pinned against the ropes, and the two goals were fully deserved. The second half we decided to sit back and soak up the pressure, and their only chance was the Malouda effort that was straight at Reina, but we still had chances to get a third with Kuyt and Maxi and N'gog getting taken out when in a possible 1on1 with the keeper.

Fortunate? Rode our luck? Give over.

I think we actually were a little fortunate in the 2nd half.

Under normal circumstances, if you sit back for 45 mins and invite chelsea onto you, they'd score. On another day, they would've had a fit drogba. On another day, Malouda's effort would go in and Pepe would've tipped Anelka's shot onto the underside of the bar, and into the net. Those small things went our way on the day, but it's not to be relied upon.

If you sit back for an entire 45 mins and invite a team onto you, you're asking for it. We got away with it yesterday, but we wont always.

No excuse for it, evidence is in the threads from literally the moment he was appointed, Roy has been called every name under the sun. Not saying he will succeed, or he is the man for the job, and even though he has really frustrated me, i think he deserves some kudos and some respect, he has made mistakes and said some stupid things, for a man normally so calm i reckon the pressure really got to him.

Sure neither did Rafa. When have you ever heard a manager for a big club come out and say yeah its all my fault? I'm not gonna say Roy is long term but he has got some **** storm of abuse from many on here, its ****ing embarrassing.

He has won 4 on the bounce and although not my favorite choice as LFC manager, i am more than happy to give him some credit. For the moment fair play to the man, people need to chill out on the abuse to, its cringeworthy and bit pathetic at this stage. I'm fine with criticism but seriously the some of the stuff on here is just not right, it really isn't.
