Couldn't believe Pepe Reina on Saturday. Get ball, hoof as far as possibile, win game. Why doesn't he understand basic instructions????

I'm not forgetting Istanbul, but our league form was pretty poor in Benitez first season.

On a number of subsequent occasions he underlined the language problem - not because he couldn't speak English as he patently could but the fact that you need a decent grasp of a language (ie the nuances not the text book stuff) to effectively get your message across.

Looking at the likes of Capello and Juande Ramos I can't help feeling he had a pretty good point.

Personally if we are to salvage this season, I think it limits us to foreigners with a strong grasp of English such as those like Rijkaard who have been brought up with it as second language as opposed to those that haven't.

I'm really not sure that any old foreigner, even one with a decent CV is necessarily what's needed right now.
The language is football, not English.

Then, it's a very small price to pay provided we get a forward thinking progressive manager. There's no one who ever comes close amongst the English candidates.
      Are we winning?

If we're prepared to consider writing off this season then I agree but I don't get that impression from what's written on here.

I'm really not sure Hodgson's original comment was meant at all like that implies. It was an attempt to suggest we don't just hoof it upfield and try to play from the back, in a more creative fashion.

It's not true, or at least it's not typical, but I really don't think Hodgson was criticising the team, or any players, for trying to play 'creatively'. In fact I don't believe he has instructed Reina to lump the ball forward on every occasion which is what that satirical tweet suggests.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

If we were seeing signs of improvement, we wouldn't mind, what we are seeing is us being dragged backwards.

Ancelotti couldn't speak English that well. It of course helps but it isn't a must.

It is all about tactics and that the whole squad give the manager a fair chance to build the tactics the way he want and believe 100% that the tactics is right.

Well I agree with you hypothetically but I hardly see people on here applauding a new manager if the results were to remain crap.

I was thinking about Ancelloti when I typed my earlier post. Evidently Scolari struggled with the language and we know what happened to him.

However the fact that Wilkins Italian is fluent has probably been a big plus for Ancelloti.

                        Depends what was on show

To me results tell only half the story, the performances have been shocking and more importantly the tactics have me completely bewildered

The majority of people calling for Hodgson's head isn't necessarily a result of bad results. We've seen in the past that our supporters give time to their manager, it's just that it's plain for everyone to see that Hodgson was a massive, massive mistake. He just isn't good enough, in every sense of the word, to be a Liverpool manager. I think, a lot of people even knew that before he was appointed.

Calling the fans more or less stupid idiots that should shut up a few times hasn't exactly helped.

Yes of course and this is the point Mattshark was making.

I just wonder how long the forums would give a new man if results don't turn around however pretty the football.

The Reds' disappointing 2-0 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday, which brought an abrupt end to the team's recent revival, was marked by a section of the away support chanting Dalglish's name.
And Hodgson has since admitted there is 'nothing [he] can do about it' if the fans want to hark back to the halcion days of title wins and regular silverware under their former boss - whose application for Hodgson's job was turned down.
Hodgson said: 'I suppose it does [disappoint me].
'But that seems like it is going to be part of life at Liverpool.
'I think we are trying to do the best job we can in the circumstances and I don't know that that type of singing helps anyone.'
Dalglish was the last Liverpool boss to win a top-flight title after claiming the Football League championship in 1990 - his third as manager and seventh overall with the club.
He left to take over at Blackburn the following year - winning the Premier League in 1995 - and although the Scot returned to Anfield in 2009 it was as head of football development rather than with the first-team.
It emerged after Hodgson was named as Rafael Benitez's successor that Dalglish had applied for the job but was turned down - and the former Fulham coach still appears to be haunted by this information leak.
'If the club decide they want to give the job to somebody else then I'll have to accept it,' he responded defiantly, after being questioned about his position at the weekend.
'The fans can chant for whoever they want and it will be up to the club to decide what they want to do.
'I can't get upset every time the fans chant someone's name. Fans make their frustrations felt every time we lose a game - but unfortunately they may have to do that a few more times this season, because I can't see us winning every game.'
