Credit to Lawro - after Shearer had come out with the usual 'Roy is great and just misunderstood' platitudes, Lawro said that he thought it had bought him time and no more, and that a change was needed. Finally, someone in the mainstream media pointing out the obvious!
Nah, Lawrenson wasn't expressing an opinion on what should happen, he's saying what he thinks (or perhaps even knows) will happen. He likes to be right and never ventures an opinion that goes against the prevailing wind.
It's like when he predicts a substitution, he's not looking at the game and thinking what needs to be changed, he's looking at the touchline and watching who is warming up and has been told to strip off their training kit. He always says, "So-and-so is coming on," not, "So-and-so is playing rubbish, they need to get him off."
Hansen was an interesting contrast with Lawro after the Wolves. You could see Hansen was absolutely fuming while chomping at the bit of journalistic impartiality - stumbling over diplomatic expressions like "some may say" (the current players are an embarrassment to the red jersey), then struggling to get himself out of a hole when he started a sentence that was obviously meant to say "Either the board back him or sack him", with Hansen's preference among those two options being obvious. You could see Hansen was generally pissed off and wishing he could lay into Hodgson, whereas Lawro's actual breaking of the impartiality rule seemed, as NY says, calculated. Hopefully it really is a case of him knowing Hodgson's a goner.
Why would they go to such games if they were going to get rid, and who out of those two teams are we looking at?
I guess Hodgson has to assume he's going to be in a job long term until he's sacked, as we don't know how long he'll be in a job.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
I dont think either of them KNOWS at all. I think they're speculating, much like we are, based on various reports and suchlike.
If Hansen knew Bodge was going, i dont think he would've been seething.
I was referring to NY's theory that Lawro may have said what he said because he knows Hodgson's departure's inevitable. You're probably right that they know no more than we do, but it's always worth hoping.....
