Yes, i agree, he has inherited a fantastic squad. However, if he was to stay there long term he'd have to rebuild the squad due to the high average age but i don't think he will. Although that Coutinho kid looked pretty tasty t'other night.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThe point was, it's a top class quality squad - one which he would have built here, if he'd been backed.
I can see Rafa having two successful years with Inter then returning home

Anyways out of those 236 shots as you say, we got """49""" on target, you actually including blocked shots!!! Funny thing is that i went to 6 of those games you mentioned so i know first hand what went on, and how we played.Originally posted by Arn View Post

236 ****ing shots in just 12 games. I wonder how many goals we would have scored if Torres and Gerrard had played more games.
We lacked the finishing touch in so many games that we dominated that season
thanks to that Torres and Gerrard missed so many games.
We couldn't break these weaker teams down at the start of the season and resorted long shots. And my bollox is that accurate in the first place, sure says United got 1 shot on target when they played Blackburn in Old Trafford, thing is United beat them 2-1
Oh and United also played Boro and beat them 2-0, but apparently tey got "0" shots on goal.
Never trust that stats my friend. Sure according to stats this season John Obi Mikel is the best passer, last season opta stats Barry ferguson/Masch/Lucas were the best passers, WTF!!!
The stats don't tell the full truth Arnie anyways look enough of this back and fourth its pointless and boring for others

so u admit u were wrong then craig? fair play to u if u doOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostYou only have to look at Inter, to see that Rafa isnt a defensive coach. He likes his team to be solid but he isnt a defensive manager at all. We played some delightful stuff under him, as are Inter now.
The difference is, at Inter he has brilliant players, while at LFC he wasnt backed enough to have those kind of players to his satisfaction.
His time at Inter is already proving that, if he's backed and allowed to bring in the right players, he'll be a massive success. It's gutting that he never got the chance to work for NESV.

No Rafas team pressed much much higher up the pitch
Not as high as maybe his Valencia team did but it was way higher than were we are nowBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

All the best sides in modern football have pressed the play high up the pitch and condensed it as much as possible.Originally posted by Arn View Post
What LDP don't seem to understand at all is that every team that have a fantastic attacking play have that because they have a fantastic defensive play to build up the attacks from.
Barcelona is a fantastic attacking team because of their fantastic defensive play. Without the fantastic ball winning tactic they would be pretty team to watch but would most probably win nothing.
It's thanks to that they win the ball back so quickly that they get a lot of possession and create a lot of chances.
We had almost as much possession in our home games as teams as Barcelona, Arsenal etc....
We had that thanks to that we hunted down the opponent all over the pitch, just like Barcelona. The difference between us with Rafa and Barcelona is really only down to that they had better attacking players and more creative players.
Our tactic with Rafa and Barcelona's tactic are almost the same. Win back the ball back as soon as possible and build the attacking play thanks to that.
The defensive play will ALWAYS be the reason to a good attacking play. You simply can't only have a good attacking play, then you would win nothing.
And by the "best sides" I mean the most successful sides I dont mean the most exciting to watch.
United (on occasion) have been an exception to that rule. We did it in the 70's & 80's, Everton did mid 80's, AC Milan did, United have, Chelsea have & Barcelona
Now I am not saying that we were on the verge of being the "best side" around but anyone suggesting that Benitez's basic philosophies were flawed doesnt know what the **** they are talking aboutBob Paisley - "This club has been my life.
