I'll start on a bad note - Fulham mark II anyone?

Reminded me of a Fulham victory v the big boys. Counter and defend what you have. In fact I could even harp back to the old days under Houllier.

To continue on with the downer. You can play this way v Chelsea, Arsenal etc. But that way of playing doesn't always work against teams happy to sit back. The real test of Hodgsons reign will be the next three games. 7 points from the next 9 and I think we can start to be positive.

On a brighter note. I read the comments prior to this and was happy to read them. Lucas was ****ing amazing. I swear only to highlight how good he was. I'd have been delighted had we sold him in the summer. Now, I see a future for him. I really do. He was superb. And he's been building towards this. It wasn't a fluke.

As for Torres. He can still finish. I'll be more positive for him though when he bursts past a player and slots one home. But it's coming.

Awesome day. And I no every other red on here will be happy if Roy proves he is the man to carry us forward. But next three games will say a lot.
    Forwards.......

      Wise up man, **** sake.

We got the decesive 2 goals, we had 7 shots to Chelsea's 5. We came very close to a third a few times, we could have had a penalty.

You expect us to go 2 up against by far the best team in the Country, the current Champions and we continue to drive forward, it never happens.

      Can't please everyone.
On a different day though, we'd have lost (or thrown away the lead, they had 2nd half chances that didn't go their way) and everyone would have been out for Roy and his "negative" tactics throwing away a lead.

I have my reservations about a couple of players, Roy's tactics and his management - but on the plus today for just about the first time this season we did look organised. We were without the ball for long periods in the second half, but it wasn't like against Blackburn for example where we were at sixes and sevens looking a right disgrace at the back and it was miraculous goals weren't conceded.

Presuming we maintain this kind of play; is it good enough to make us good again? I don't think so. Is it good enough for Roy to keep his job? Maybe. If he can do the "bridging" sort of job that many expected of him initially then maybe it is enough, I'm not sure if I'd be satisfied with that as I don't like the mentality but then there'd be a method to the madness.

As it stands though, my opinion of Roy remains the same, this does however rectify the Blackpool result.

Totally delighted with the result. I wasn't gonna mention this on here as I'll be accused of nitpicking, sticking the boot into Roy or whatthe****ever (committing suicide?) - but we played like minnows in the 2nd half. Two banks of four, about 15 yards apart. Our defensive third had 8 men standing in two rows - pure Houllier. Also the use of CMs out wide reminded me of Murphy on the right and Cheyrou on the left.

However...I'll leave it there. Bit by bit we are getting better. If the run continues I expect us to play with more authority and less of this giantkillers' approach. Amazing that we're so close the chasing pack now.

When Drogba (i think) received the ball wide on the left you could look at our defensive line and we had 7 or 8 (!) players lying flat at one stage. With Meireles and Maxi just infront of them. This was from open play too, no set pieces etc. Made me cringe a little bit, but fairplay beggars can't be choosers, definitely signs of improvement.

Would agree with most of that

First half I actually thought we pressed higher up the pitch not as high as I would like but higher than we have done

Second half we retreated back into our shell and displayed very Houllier-esque tactics

Still good result, good performance and a quite good interview from Roy

I'm still not convinced hes the man to take us forward but hats off hes won 3 league games on the trot

Seriously? You are questioning Torres after THAT?

Same here. He had a good game but not great. I still think his future is not RB.

That was the softest Chelsea midfield I've seen since Abramovich took over. Lucas bossed them. Great result and some very winable fixtures coming up. Dare I say it, Roy is starting to look like he's learnt from his early season mistakes. I still don't think he's the man for us, but if the results keep coming, immediate sacking is not a priority.

Again agree with this would prefer us to press higher and earlier rather than do this but I suppose beggars cant be choosers

To me Hodgsons system can only get you so far it remains to be seen how far that actually is

I think it's a fair comment, Torres was awesome today, yet you could still see at times that his pace isn't close to what it was. He's getting there, and hopefully he'll feel more comfortable sprinting soon because it seems he's holding back a bit. I think he's not confident in his hamstring.

Now is not the time to discuss the Wigan match, lets just enjoy a great victory.

Anyone else think that mong terry was lucky to be on the pitch. That tackle on nando was an assault. It was the only way he could stop him.

Played well, great result and Torres took his goals brilliantly. But we're still 9th in the table.

Next three ganes are against Stoke, Wigan and West Ham. If we win those three then I think we'll be in the top four and that would be immense considering our start to the season.
