I really hope the manager has a plan. Because its Starting to look like a fire sale.

So what we get 22 million, can we get a CB as good as Agger for less than that ?
we don't have a good record we sold Alonso bought Aquilani look how that turned out"All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"

I don't think we can get anyone near as good as Agger for that sort of money, especially when you look at transfer fees, agent fees, signing-on fees, a pay off fee for Agger plus the salary for a replacement.Originally posted by souliv View PostSo what we get 22 million, can we get a CB as good as Agger for less than that ?

I just can't understand why we'd look to sell our best players. I know it's pretty much just a Twitter rumour at the moment but I have a feeling that there's some truth in this.
And it's bollocks. It stinks of bollocks and ****.

Great way to treat a lifelong servant. 700 games. His contract is hardly his fault, and no matter what its not like he doesn't still give it what he's got for the club. We've more useless wastes of wages about the club than Carra. And anyway, who we going to sell him to at that money?Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostHow much is carragher on? £80k per week and he hardly gets a game now so he should either take a pay cut or be sold..
Which would achieve what exactly? If we've got to be paying him £100k/week we might as well get some use out of him.Originally posted by souliv View PostExactly tell Cole he takes a paycut or go rot in the reserves.
Nonsense, that's really selective. No way is our current squad as bad as that. Paul Stewart. Nigel Clough. Neil Ruddock. Julian Dicks ffs.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostBellamy, Maxi, Kuyt (possibly Agger) gone and yet Adam, Cole, Carragher and Spearing are still here. Bloody hell this could end up being a worse team than anything we saw in the 90's
I don't see it like that. If Agger wants to go thanks to several years of poor team performance (that is not the current manager's fault) then all we can really do is try to get the best price. This might be a painful process but one we are going to have to go through obviously. Other clubs have done it and come back stronger, if we're going to take the (correct) long term view then we need to build an effective team unit, and have a streamlined club operation that isn't throwing away millions every week on stupid wages and transfers. In achieving that we're probably going to lose a few established 'stars' too we'd rather keep. Harsh but inevitable.Originally posted by Alex View PostI really hope the manager has a plan. Name one player we have overpaid for since Commolli was sackedOriginally posted by malg View PostI'm sure if we get 22million we will get a new player from Swansea for around the 17 million mark.

It's fine stripping out what could be classed as deadwood, and also players who don't want to be here. But we don't seem to been replacing. I am aware there is a month left too. But I don't think you can replace all the players that have gone and could still be going.
That's what I mean more than anything.*Except Michael, who died.
