His recent U21 performances make him look like he has developed as a player. Also personally I was much more impressed with his work rate against Young Boys than I have been when I have seen him before.

I think this idea that if a player hasn't made it by 21 then we should write them off is wrong.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think Suso - albeit not the fastest - is more pacey than Pacheco and is a better dribbler. As mentioned above, the return of Johnson to RB will really help Suso on the right as the space created by his overlapping runs will allow Suso to cut inside and attack on his left foot. Although he has drifted out of games, Suso has looked his best when cutting in and attacking the box - this will be a lot easier when we have attack full-backs stretching the play.

I just don't see what Pacheco would do out there - he wouldn't hug the touchline or stretch the full-back. His strength is his vision (like Suso?) so I'd prefer to see him more central.

Yup, I agree. Same as the old argument about "oh he can't even get into xxxx teams midfield, why would we want him?". It's completely lazy and wrong and bollocks.

None of our last 4 managers appear to have rated him.
If Rodgers is consistently giving the chance to Joe Cole and Downing there is no reason not to play Pacheco, whose work rate and desire to prove himself is 10 times of those other 2.

He's been excellent with U21 especially as of late and deserves some playing time with the first team.

That said, if the tomorrow's line-up speculations are true Joe Cole will start vs Anzhi and Pacheco will be on the bench

Rodgers has to play Cole and Downing to a certain extent, mainly to try and get some resale value, regardless of how miniscule it is

He's certainly better than Yesil at this stage, or ****ing Joe Cole for that matter.

Just can't see him making it here, if he's not getting the chances now instead of Cole or Downing I can't see him having a future at LFC.

Shame but if he's not good enough

I was impressed when he played against Young Boys. Not sure why he hasn't featured after that.

For Cole, I think its a question of how much of his wages someone will cover and got to hope Martin O Neil will pay 8m for Downing

The choices of backup players has been odd. I think Rodgers must have been playing Cole to see if a match situation would bring out more in him. His use of Downing over Assaidi and Pacheco has been one of the odder features of the season so far.

I tend to agree that if either Cole or Downing gets the nod tonight then Pacheco will never be given a chance by Rodgers. If that is true I hope we get him a loan in January (or sell I guess but I would think a good loan spell might increase his value).

                          Pacheco's plan to emulate Suso

Dani Pacheco has reiterated his determination to become a first-team player at Liverpool – with the success of compatriot Suso providing the perfect motivation.
                          daniel pacheco,

The 21-year-old has consistently remained on the fringes of the senior squad since joining from Barcelona back in 2007, making 17 appearances in a Red shirt.

Several loan spells have offered a taste of competitive action, but the Spaniard has watched Suso earn a starting berth and now wants to emulate his younger colleague.

"I haven't played as much as I would like this season, but in football things can change very quickly," the versatile forward told the Liverpool Echo.

"Look at what's happened with Suso. He was given a chance and he took it. He has worked really hard and has been playing every week. He is doing very well and I'm happy for him.

"I must try to do the same. I hope I'll get a chance and then it's down to me to take it. I train with the first team every day and if I didn't have the belief that I could become a regular here I would have left already.

"I'll try to make sure that in the near future that happens. If it doesn't happen I will move on and try to make it somewhere else. But I still hope and believe I can make it at Liverpool."

A fundamental element of Pacheco's plan is to improve on the characteristics which manager Brendan Rodgers is looking for in his players and heed the Northern Irishman's advice.

"It's difficult when you don't play too many games," continued the former Barcelona youth.

"The most important thing for a young player is confidence. You get confidence by playing every week and I haven't done that yet.

"The manager loves players with skill but he also wants players to work really hard to win the ball back for the team. I'm doing my best and trying to improve the things that he is telling me to do. Hopefully I will impress the manager and get more games.

"I really enjoyed playing against Young Boys away when we won 5-3 with a very young side. The manager was very pleased with the way we performed and I'd love to play against them again at Anfield."

Should that chance not present itself in the near future, Pacheco is happy to keep his options open, but the youngster stressed his goal is to remain a Liverpool player.

He added: "There is still a month-and-a-half before the transfer window opens. When January comes I'm sure I'll have a meeting with the manager and we'll decide what is best for me.

"In the summer I was ready to go out on loan but then something strange happened at the last minute. They needed to get rid of one of their players before getting me in but in the end that player never went so I stayed.

"We will see what happens between now and January. I hope I can play more games and get my fitness up. I want to make it here."

Seems like a good lad and it's a shame that time seems to be running out for him. Wonder if Norwich were interested in the summer. If he does move on I'd like him to stay in PL to see if he makes it.

If we do sell him I want a buy back clause of a couple of mil.

Seems to really enjoy being here too.

Does his contract run out in 2014 or 2013?
