We played some awful football on the way to that treble.

Houllier's master plan was a big hoof from the back, looking for the head of Heskey to flick on to Owen who would use his pace to get the goals. No wonder Carragher liked it so much
    We come not to play.

Exactly. Under Rafa we could play **** football but it was because some of the players were limited and not good enough. Rafa has always recognized this, but couldn't find that top class winger that would have catapulted us to the title. He has made mistakes obviously but his football wasn't "****". Rafa's teams dominate possession and press the opposition, you could say it was mechanical but it wasn't defensive.

Try watching some of our games under Houllier. Houllier's football was MEANT to be ****, it was his strategy and approach to the game. Defend deep, contain, launch it upfield to counter. There is absolutely no comparison.

Carragher may like Houllier more but this just proves that like Gerrard, he is not a true leader nor is made from championship material. He appreciates an arm around the shoulder more than a strict coach that pushes him to improve. He seems to forget he was a utility guy before Rafa made him relevant.

We need a manager who makes us play attractive attacking football like in the 80's. Arsene?

I have no doubt that the anfield crowd will give Houllier a great reception for all he did for the club and he deserves it. However, the mischievous part of me would love the crowd to sing Rafa's name with both him and Hodgson there. May shut up sky for awhile aswell.

as for what Carra said/didn't say.....Meh player doesn't like former manager is common fare in football.....just look at fergie and some of the ex manc players.

I agree with us moving to a more attacking mentality but that change requires a top manager, cash and time.

Wenger would be a dream, never going to happen though.

A manager and players that can play some attractive Winning football, step up Pep Guardiola.
                  We come not to play.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Poorly informed He worked with the managers day in and day out. He was on the training pitch, in the dressing room for every match. You watched tv and read stuff on the Internet and in the papers and his view is poorly informed. Absolutlely ridiculous.

Exactly, this is a forum where opinions are aired, and mine is, this is another Rafa patting thread. Get over me not patting the boring ****er on the back for all the years of dross i've watched.

Obviously I can only speak from my observations of Carra's performances under the respective managers. Those performances were far better under Rafa than they were under Ged, as were the teams as a whole. It was only when Rafa moved him to CB he stopped being a square peg. Last I remember Carra saying about GH when he was still here was bitching about him getting Finn in.

Him being there doesn't mean his opinion is automatically correct. Rumour is it he was integral in us getting Roy in FFS. It was obvious that we were a far more progressive, effective side under Rafa than Ged, so as far as big picture is concerned, I stand behind my "poorly informed" comment completely.

Carra's evaluations come across as emotive and personality-based rather than based on on managerial accumen. Saying the Treble was a better achievement than the CL is certainly poorly informed, although "poorly-judged" might fit better. Nonetheless, try thinking about what people are saying rather than jumping on small phrases.
