They look an excellent pair. Really pleased with the progress of both of 'em.

Interesting to see what Hodgson does when Gerrard returns. He has to keep them together and get Gerrard off Nando/Ngog.

But then who would the defenders hoof the ball up to?

They were just passing it around the back in a damage limitation exercise. I swear we could win 7-0 and people would complain cos the opposition had more corners than us.

          Enjoy the win.
Sitting back and inviting pressure at 2-0 like we did would have been a great idea had Agbonlahor scored like he should have to make it 2-1, we'd have then got edgey, Villa would have been lifted and we'd have **** ourselves and camped on our own 18 yard box.

Before last night we hadn't scored a PL 2nd half goal for 5 matches....... conincidence??? I don't think so.
Against an average team our 2nd half tactics would have got us into trouble and will get us into trouble.

Having Hodgson in charge of us with his tactics will get us into trouble, we should be beating a Villa side without 4 or 5 of their 1st choice players 3-0 at home.

There may well be light at the end of the tunnel but I just don't see it I'm afraid

The third goal, albeit beautifully conceived, was rather fortunate to arrive when it did. If Villa had of taken that chance to make it 2-1, we all know what the rest of that match would've played out like.

I didn't see the whole match admittedly but didn't think we played well TBH, it's not like we had many clear chances, we scored from a corner and again when they were shell shocked, the third was well worked on the counter. But Villa had more possession through the match and created their own chances, and as has been said, this was a very, very poor Villa side, and when they started to move a bit further up the pitch they looked better in the second half. I fear we won't get the maximum points from our next two away games which should be mandatory.

I only saw the second half but I was impressed by the Ngog-Babel partnership more than I thought I would be. Babel actually looks like second striker with a simple set of defensive responsibility is something he is suited to. His pace and drifting wide seems to work better for Ngog than a partnership with Torres (I think those two are too tactically similar). Not sure it would work against a good defense but this season I doubt we will see many of those.

It was clear after the match that the priority for Houllier was to hear his name being chanted by the kop, then to provide a platform for his buddy Hodgson to cement his resurgence as a good manager. It's nice to see so much love-in between managers in the PL, especially after 5 years of constant bickering by Benitez.
                  Are we winning?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

We really need to be beating Newcastle and Fulham in the next 2 games to even contemplate some mild consistency. With Chelsea/Arsenal/Spurs/Mancs playing each other its yet another perfect opportunity for us to capitalize on dropped points and gain some ground, but of course we've had several chances already this season to do just this, and we've blown it so as a LFC supporter you don't really wanna get your hopes up.

Great performance against a poor Villa side, but squad is looking stronger with injuries diminishing somewhat , obviously Gerrard is a massive loss but will be back soon, Carra not so much IMO. We "seem" to be playing better football, there's actually some cohesion in the CM area between Lucas & Meireles (we'll see against better opposition but looks promising IMO) and some good pass and move in the attacking areas even if we do have no width. I dread to think what Roy will do when Gerrard come back into the team? Also i wonder if Roy sees Aurelio as more of a LM than LB, and a bit part role? The Konch seems a firm favorite of Roys, to our determent it has been.

Anyways our next 5 league games are:

                          Newcastle (A)
                          Utrecht (H)
                          Fulham (H)
                          Blackpool (A)
                          Wolves (H)
                          Bolton (H)

These games will see us up to the 1st of January and into the transfer window which will be interesting. But if Roy wants to even remotely endear himself to the fans we have to consider winning at least 4 out of those 5 games. In all seriousness we really have to be winning all 5 but can't see that happening.

Obviously its so important for us to be in a good position come the January transfer window, sure what top player will want to come to LFC if we are languishing outside the top tier of the league?

Cant see us winning 4, because it'd mean needing to win at least one away game.

Also, whilst we SHOULD do, for some reason, i cant see us winning all 3 of the games at home. It just isnt Roy.

All too true, but i'll be more than happy to be surprised. The away games are a serious issue, its laughable at this stage. Not sure if the Newcastle game has come at a good or bad time for them, hopefully they don't get new man in by our game on Saturday but i'm they will, that new manager syndrome can be a catalyst for some teams.

Looking at those games until Jan 1st, they are all very winnable but i'm still very skeptical whether we have the consistency to do so. Simply put, if we want to be attracting top players we have to be in a good league position come January and the opening of th ewindow.

                                Anyone notice Houllier last night?

Firstly when he first appeared out of the tunnel after the players came out...you can see it in his eyes, he's expecting a massive standing ovation and his eyes are darting around looking for approval. You can see one fella in the Main Stand stand up and clap him

And at the end - he shook hands with Hodgson and sort of stood there afterwards, staring and waving at the Kop ...I think he thinks he's some sort of LFC God
