Fark me he's shining this season, definitely the present and future of Liverpool's midfield if he can keep this up for a few years. Its almost like the shackles are off when he plays with Raul.

I think he takes responsibility more when Stevie aint there. Usually everyone just passes to gerrard and expects him to make something happen.

For me Gerrard needs to play the short game more when in the team and play the quick passing like we witnessed today. He does it when deployed further forward so no reason why he can't place more faith in his team mates when deeper.

Turning into a great player. No longer just plays the safe ball. Looks up and plays mid range forward balls. His accuracy is also out of the top drawer.

Add in the brilliant attitude, willingness to run all day, and touchwood his good injury record and we've got ourselves a player.

Nice to see him mix in a bit of fight today too, with the little altercation with L Young. All good defensive midfielders need a bit of mongrel in them.

Its almost a sin for suggesting, but I really don't want to see Gerrard in that midfield while Lucas, Raul and Maxi are playing some sweet one touch football. Maybe play as support striker to Ngog up front? Problem is I can still see Lucas' game suffering with Gerrard constantly dropping back.

Me too, from the start. He's had the right attitude throughout and has just taken time to adjust to the country/league. He strikes me as a listener and learner and has improved attributes to his game every season.

His latest games have shown improved mid range passes, something he lacked confidence to do last season.

It'd be a daft thing to do.

He should be given a one-year extension, without doubt.

Especially now he's showing signs of getting to grips with the league.

Definitely enjoying seeing him play in this kind of form. I actually think this is the turning point and he'll prove to all of us that he is capable of being the player that many doubted he could be. I'd love to see him develop as a Liverpool player and stay here for many a year.

I hope that Roy continue to play Meireles in the middle when Gerrard comes back but I doubt it and that will affect Lucas in a negative way. Not a coincidence that our midfield click much better without the headless chicken Gerrard in there.

Gerrard should play behind Torres or out wide right or not play at all. It is the only positions he is first choice in. We have better players in all other positions.

Lucas and Meireles, that is our best central midfield combination. There isn't a single other central midfielder that been better when he played with Gerrard.

Didn't work with Xabi, Mascherano, Lucas etc......all of them played better with another player.

Meireles is a central midfielder. Lucas is a central midfielder. Gerrard isn't.

People who watched him give a series of top performances at the start of last season when he was, just like now, probably our best player?
