Do you want Rafa back?

By "divide the team" I can only think of maybe putting Carragher's nose out of joint - no bad thing in my book. **** the players. It's the manager who carries the can and who is the most influential person at any club - or should be. If the players are "divided" then those who are unhappy could just **** off.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postno. not good enough before and not good enough now. he would divide the team again IMO.
That said, I voted No. Only because I'm a great admirer of Benitez but to take him back now when the squad's been tainted by Hodgson's ****e additions and the exclusion of players like Aquilani would mean that he'd have to undo all the old fool's bad work before he could start again and it might take too much time.
I'd prefer to remember him as one of our great managers and not as someone toiling to erase the memory of Hodgson's terrible handiwork, so it's all about timing for me. He should never have gone in the first place, as most people would agree

Well put.
As the Olympiacos banner read, he made us dream. And then, as the banner didnt have room to say, he also made us believe.
I want belief back. I want to go into any game across europe and feel secure about how we'll do. I want to feel assured and composed in games, i want the confidence back, the feeling that we could go anywhere and win. Or at the very least, know that we wouldnt roll over, we'd be hard to beat and even if we played poorly and it wasnt exciting, we had the depth of character and strength to iron out a draw.
I want the belief back. I want Rafa back.Last edited by Craig_H; 21-12-10, 03:51 PM.

No.
The time was right for him to leave. Reappointing him would be a backwards steps that would divide the fan base and, if you believe the rumours, alienate a number of players.
Looking at his last season here and his record at Inter I believe he's lost his managerial mojo somewhat and that he'd be best served by taking a break from the game.
Of course he is better than Hodgson, but so's my cat and I don't want her as manager of LFC either.A humble guy with healthy desire.

You honestly think Rafa would have got us back in it this year? After all the negative sentiment towards him last season this place would have gone crazy if he was still here now, working under the same financial restraints as the Squirell. And on the pitch we would not have fared much better - would have been better for sure but not by much IMO.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostSome responsibility, yeah.
But given what the obvious alternative has proven to be, i'd take rafa missing the CL one year out of 6.
Unless NESV came in last Summer it was the right time for Rafa to go. I think as much as I would like him to come back, it is a decision from the heart rather than the head."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

So you called for Rafa to be sacked, and when he was you said you actually only wanted a new manager if there were new owners. Now we have new owners, you want rafa back. You're all over the place man.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostSome responsibility, yeah.

I voted "no", neither because I think Rafa is a poor manager, nor because I think that Roy is a particularly good one, but simply because I strongly believe that turning back the clock is just not a way forward.
Jürgen Klopp is topping the German league with a very young Dortmund team and positive attacking football. Someone along these lines is what I would be hoping for.

If you're allowing me to cherry pick a manager of my own free choice, then i wouldnt say Rafa.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostSo you called for Rafa to be sacked, and when he was you said you actually only wanted a new manager if there were new owners. In realistic terms though, he's the best option IMO.
As i said yesterday - if he can work under a regime that managed to seriously financially hamstring us, and get within 4 points of the title - why is it unreasonable to say that, with good backing, he could match that again, or do better?
