Dalglish's Style Of Play and Formation?

What kind of style and formation can we expect Dalglish to adopt. I know he played a passing game when he last managed us but I was relatively young to remember. I can't remember Newcastle being pleasing on the eye but I could be wrong.

I know people have said that he didn't play a pressing game back in those days because we didn't really need too. I think it would be naive if we continued to neglect this element of our game.

I think he would be wise to adopt a similair strategy to Rafa. The players we have are best suited to it - none of the 442 bollocks and sitting back like Woy.

Meireles and Lucas through the middle, Gerrard behind the striker, Kuyt and Cole either side.

NO KONCHESKY! Agger and I guess Skrtel through the middle.

I'd love him to be bold and try Johnson further forward with Kelly at RB but I can't see it.

I'm hoping people who were old enough to remember Dalglish's time as manager here will provide an insight into his style of football. My knowledge is limited as I was too young to remember.

TBH mate I watched the games but don't really remember too many tactical nuances, probably cos we won most of our matches.

We were pretty much always 442 or 4411 if you prefer as Beardsley played a bit further back from the main striker, but we had such good players there was a fair bit of positional interchange going on.

I think that he will talk a lot with Rafa the next couple of weeks. He has been out a long time and need all the help he can get.

Dalglish's sides were the most attacking Liverpool sides of those great 70's & 80's sides

Paisley built an absolute crushing machine that just rolled over teams but Kennys were very offensive teams (barring his double team)

I would guess that his tactics will be similar to the double season because he doesnt have the players to play his expansive game he played from 87 onwards

He doesnt have the players to play a straight 4 across midfield

IF he signs some wide players in January that might change

Should be guest of honor against Everton, give him a chance to get the sendoff and thanks that he deserved and should have received. Would also allow a lot of grieving fans to get over the past and look forward to the future.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That would be a fantastic gesture

I think people will underestimate Kenny at their peril. He will have been waiting for this moment and I am sure will already know what formation he is going to play with this squad.

I am looking forward to seeing how Torres responds and also to see what he does with Joe Cole.

Absolutely. We had the best left winger in world football at the time who would score 20 goals a season, we had an amazing clinical finisher in Aldridge, and the best number 7 since Kenny (and the last great number 7 we've had) in Beardsley. Our first 11 couldn't hold a candle to that team.

Don't think he'll look back to the 80's for inspiration tactically - the game's changed too much. Its faster and more athletically based. I hope he'll look to when we were at our most effective in recent times and base it around that. Meireles is an adequate Alonso impersonator and Lucas is experienced enough to try to do Mascherano. Gerrard - bomb forward and feed Torres!

Beyond vague observations on his teams style often being 'attacking', I think it's very difficult to say really given he may (hopefully has) altered his beliefs since he had his last managerial position. It'll be interesting to see how he sets us out tomorrow.

Indeed, this isn't what I'm anticipating.

I was only referring to what I can remember from the 80's.
