Tricky question. Some people have been saying he's still very clued up and he's never really been 'out of it'. I guess he'll be implementing his own ideas but he's possibly learned a lot with the best managers during the last 5 years or so, of which Rafa should prominently feature on his list.

We need the balance on the left again, as has been said before, Riera was limited but at least he gave us that when he played.
He's only 22 or something. Riera gave balance, but had no pace at all. There'll never be another Barnes, half or 3/4's of a Barnes would do.

Also, I know you more than most have talked about the lack of pressing under Hodgson, what was it like under Dalglish and would you expect this element of our game to return. I know one or two have said we didn't adopt a pressing game under Dalglish.
I'm not sure I would agree with the comment that he "wasnt tactically astute"

He was no Bob Paisley (who was though because for me hes the best manager ever) but hes more astute than Roy

Lets face it Fergie is hardly a tactical genius as imo hes more reliant on buying good players and motivating them

We pressed high up the pitch under Kenny

Rush/Aldo leading the line harrying the back four of the opposition

Houghton, Barnes, Beardsley & McMahon all pressed high up the pitch

        Whelan was the holding player
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

First things he'll do is instruct the players to play higher up the pitch, try to control games and win them. Hopefully they haven't forgotten how to do it after Roy's tenure. Doing it a Man. Utd is another matter though, it's going to be fascinating to watch. Kenny will make them feel like they are 10 feet tall.

I think people should also bear in mind that when Kenny last managed us we did have the best players in the league, so to some extent management was largely about keeping them fit and getting them out on the pitch. The team had difficulties defensively some times and could also be out-thought occasionally, but generally it was the brilliance of the players that carried us forwards. The team was not that fast, but football was much slower in those days. He bought well early on, but towards the end he bought badly (Speedie, Carter) and he was too slow in replacing legends (thus creating the problems that Sounness over-reacted to, thus ending LFC's period of dominance).

Do we know yet who his staff are going to be? What he could do with is a really good coach and, because he is a man of relatively few words, a wordy side-man who will be respected by the squad.

We had a fantastic scouting team back then and weren't afraid to buy players from obsecure places. Buying players from lower divisions and putting them into the first team.

How big a chance is there for Thommo to be assistant manager? Any rumours flying around?

All the rumours are saying it's going to be Ian Rush. Thommo said he's not been contacted and isn't really expecting to be, but if they did he wouldn't turn down the chance.

Only thing to be concerned about is what the Geordie fans saw from him as manager. I have some (non rabid) geordie mates who were hugely disappointed with what they perceived to be negative football, but they never gave him a a chance and he was manager just as their only good side was being dismantled. He tried to give them defensive balance, but they seemed to see this as straying too far from the attacking model Keegan showed them.

Shearer was injured and Jon Dahl Tomasson was like a rabbit caught in the headlights, stuck up front with a chubby old John Barnes providing midfield support.

Haha, bet Thommo's kicking himself he turned Ged down now! Those Villa players seem like a right bunch of pricks.

Hoepfully he'll go with a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1, something along those lines, it should be more attacking, higher up the pitch and see us pressing the ball more. Which is what we've needed.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I wouldn't judge him too much on his Newcastle experience. The fans were expecting good football overnight, and Kenny was of the view that improving results was the first priority. And then the injuries.....

I am much more concerned about his decision to front a structure at Celtic that involved Digger Barnes as manager. Total lack of judgement.

Anyway, although I am not sure I am with all those who thought Kenny should have been appointed six months and am a bit unsure about the wisdom of his appointment now, I am sure that if we don't all just get behind the manager, the team and the players individually from now on, we will tear our beloved Club apart and do much more lasting damage than that done by Hodgson and even H&G.

i think that just restoring a working formation and pressing game will make a difference.

we do need to remember that, doing that where we finished last season so no miracles.

hopefully there will be more of a positive atmosphere that will also help things. I would like to see some players come in, however with a temp manager and Jan not being the best time to buy unless your blackburn and paying with drumsticks, i am not overly hopeful.

our best football under bodge was when we pressed up the pitch so hopefully thats a given.

Agger and Aurellio, hopefully but no evidence they will be fit to play all the games.

still some problems but with THE KING and then Commolli and the academy working on the future hopefully we will be stabalised.
